New RollerCoaster Tycoon revealed, coming to mobiles and PC

Atari announces RollerCoaster Tycoon 4 Mobile; launching spring 2014 for $3, PC "experience" coming too.

Atari announced today that the classic amusement park simulation franchise RollerCoaster Tycoon is coming back this spring for mobiles and PC.

The mobile version is appropriately titled RollerCoaster Tycoon 4 Mobile and it's coming to iOS devices this spring (there's no word on an Android version). It includes 20 pre-designed coasters and a "bevy" of new attractions and features, Atari said.

RollerCoaster Tycoon 4 Mobile lets you create and share your parks and includes Facebook and Game Center support. You'll also be able to visit your friends' parks and exchange roller coaster blueprints, too. The game will sell for $3 at launch.

As for the PC version of RollerCoaster Tycoon, Atari said on Twitter that a "PC experience" is currently in development and will launch this year. Unfortunately, that's all we have to go on right now.

The most recent entry in the core RollerCoaster Tycoon series was 2004's RollerCoaster Tycoon 3.

ok, I'll fall for your trap. I'll give you $3 for a crappy RCT game, then I'll give you $40 for the good one. but please, GIVE ME THE GOOD ONE!

So those red tickets are the pay to win/not wait currency right?

Wait a minute, what if they leave the mobile game as pay to win but strip out all the pay to win crap and release a full PC version?

I loved using the calipers to drop unhappy guests in the lake and watch them meet their binary maker after struggling to stay afloat for a couple seconds. MWA HA HA! DIE, Little BASTARDS!

I'm hoping the PC "experience" is a legitimate RCT game and not some lame microtransaction version, which is what the mobile version is looking like.

I was a huge fan of the Roller Coaster Tycoon franchise. In my opinion the first 2 were better than the third; the different animation style and gameplay of the third iteration threw me off a little, but it was still fun. I was excited when I saw the headline on the front page, but after reading the article, watching the video and looking at the screenshot, I am extremely wary of RCT 4. It looks cheesy and looks like a money grab pay-to-play model.
And where are the physics. Half the roller coasters they show don't even have banked turns! I'll wait until the PC version comes out (no interest in the mobile/facebook version) and I hope its a full fledged game without micro transactions, but first impressions are negative.

Roller Coaster tycoon 3 platinum is amazing, you can get it on STEAM. The damn AMD GPU drivers right now are screwed for it though. AMD needs to fix it ASAP, its one of my favourite games. Its so much fun, you can ride the rides and everything.

Hmmm PC AND mobile is a little worrying. Though I will keep my eye on it since Roller Coaster Tycoon and Theme Park World are some of the most fun in "strategy" I've ever had.

I think I'm gonna stick with RCT1&2 despite both being unplayable on Winderp 8. So unless they do some sort of HD remake (preferably without the online part) I'm unlikely to get this.

Since I heard about the news that there is a new Rollercoaster Tycoon coming, a sequel to one of my most enjoyed games, every further announcement felt like being on a rollercoaster.

"A new RCT is in development" - YAY - "it's a mobile game" - NOO - "but we're also working on a PC experience" - YAY - wait, what ? "experience" ? - NOO ...

The PC version better be a real damn good standalone development, making use of todays technology and processing power to deliver a truly worthy successor to the franchise, otherwise this will be just another "casual, dumbed down game" disaster.

Since Atari also mentioned something about an "Online experience" I'll remain VERY sceptical until gameplay is shown and more details surface, perhaps they'll even do an AMA on Reddit to answer most pressing questions by long time fans and the community.

For now this will stay on my watchlist but please, pretty please, don't screw this up, Atari - If the plan is to release a simple port or a crappy facebook game or a always online DRM'd microtransaction fuckfest, then don't release it at all, stop development immediately and burn down your office - if you don't, then fans will. (actually this will simply mean that Atari will lose customers and that the franchise ended with RCT3, pretty unspectacular though compared to the alternative reality thought)

@bloody-hell the guy who made Roller coaster tycoon 1 , 2 and 3 left though unfortunately and he really gave a sht about making the most amazing theme park game. So who knows. look at the state of Simcity when the original developers leave.

<< LINK REMOVED >>Fingers are crossed that 'online play' means being able to go 1st person and wander around other people's parks. That would be good. That and the existing sharing of track designs, that's all that's needed.

Wait a sec, what is it with developers waiting 10 years to release a new game to a beloved franchise, only for it to really, really suck? First SimCity, now this. What's next? Evil Genius? Pirates?... Don't answer that.

I'll pick it up for Android someday, assuming you can build your own rollercoasters and not just use prebuilt designs. The PC version will be a day one buy.

I used to love the original Rollercoaster Tycoons. The isometric ones were much better than the 3D version. Sucks that they don't release them for Android though. The Galaxy S3 and S4 have bigger screen...you'd think they'd release more games for them.

Hopefully the PC version will be a full fledged game rather than a port to Facebook. One thing that comes positive from this news is that it's called Rollercoaster Tycoon 4 and not just 'Rollercoaster Tycoon', if the PC version has next-gen graphics and everything that made the originals shine then maybe for once we will get a true sequel to a beloved franchise, hoping The Sims 4 will be good too.

But I hope the PC experience they say is actually a PC experience and NOT a Facebook game!

This looks seriously awful. And I've always been a huge fan of Rollercoaster Tycoon.

I don't think anyone was asking for a theme-park version of Farmville.

Just look at the picture, clearly there are micro-transactions. What a shame. Hopeful for the PC version at least, as long as it's a standalone game like the previous entries.

Am I the only one that's thinking the game will end up like this?: "Park rides will take anywhere from 30 minutes to a few days to complete. Or, the player may choose to finish the building process instantly by spending "gems". Recruit your Facebook friends to come to your park to entertain your guests and get more gems!"

The PC experience coming soon, and it will probably bring all the micro-transactions with it. Another one bites the dust ladies and gents. The only way to put gamers at ease is to answer three simple questions. 1. Will there be micro-transactions? 2. Will it be online only with a "social experience"?. 3. Will be Sim Parking Lot levels of dumbed down? If the answer to these three questions is "No", then I will happily look forward to and purchase this game day one.

I have been waiting for RCT 4 for 12 years... RCT 3 was weird, (I still played it a lot, just didn't like it as much) but I LOVED the first two.

I hope they don't ruin the PC version.

Hopefully they don't kill the game with micro transactions. They'll let you build the coaster, but it will cost extra to put it in your park. Lol.
