New Sherlock Holmes Game Features a Semi-Open World, See Gameplay Here

Sherlock Holmes: The Devil's Daughter lets you move freely throughout parts of the game's world.

New gameplay of Sherlock Holmes: The Devil's Daughter has been revealed by developer Frogwares' CEO, Wael Amr, on the PlayStation Blog. It features additional playable characters, a semi-open world, and Assassin's Creed-like chase sequences--also, Holmes looks a bit like Madmen actor Jon Hamm.

The new Sherlock Holmes game lets you move freely throughout several districts in London, England. Each district is its own open area, while you'll have to travel to others by horse and carriage--you won't be able to travel from one to another without hitting a loading screen. You can check it out for yourself in the video below.

You'll be able to play the game as other characters, who'll help Holmes with his investigations. The video shows that you can play as a boy named Wiggins, who you'll use for a chase sequence similar the Assassin's Creed games, where you have to follow someone without being seen.

Additionally, the gameplay video shows that you'll have to perform a "skill-based activity" to do things like eavesdrop, though these can be turned off in order to just get the story. At any time, you'll be able to switch to a first-person perspective as well.

Sherlock Holmes: The Devil's Daughter releases for PS4, Xbox One, and PC on June 10.

If you want to see more gameplay from the upcoming detective game, you can check out another trailer here.

I'm buying it. I got first game via Games with Gold and it was fantastic. It's not really truly open world, You are given different locations during each missions that you can walk through and explore for clues but they are not that big. What really draws me to the game is the mystery. It's fun to find the clues and figure out who done it and why. The graphics are not bad, The first game looked amazing. Although I am curious as to why Holmes got such a big make over, The original look was much better.

I very much enjoyed the previous installment and this one is looking like a great improvement.

Wanted open-world game about Sherlock for SO long. Graphics look bad and Holmes himself looks not as books describe, but I have some hope for it.

@dexda: This is 100% final. The animations are like this in today's games. Only 3-4 top tier games have better animation.

@Ripper_TV: How exactly have you come to the numbers 3-4? Or have you as I assume pulled it out of your ass?

@dexda: What came to mind. Uncharted, AssCreed, latest Halos. Nothing else came to mind, Mass Effect has horrible facial animations for a game that you spend 70% of the time talking in.

Recently played a game made in 2014, Lords of the Fallen, which got decent reviews. It has horrendous facial animations, all out of sync. Didn't even think devs are still on that level, but it seems they are.

@Ripper_TV: Right so YOU couldn't think of any more games with shit animations so you assumed there were no more.

Also I think you need to go back and play those games again because NONE of them have animations THIS shit. Assassin's Creed might be close but only in the main crowds and I certainly didn't notice them being this bad.

Uncharted and Halo both have excellent animations. Far superior to this shit anyway.

I was thinking of buying the past Sherlock Holmes games from GOG but not sure if they are good?

@Moonco: get the Testament of Sherlock Holmes, it's by far best in series.

@Moonco: The games are unique enough and are great fun if you bring a friend over and try to jott notes together to try to find out the case.

@Moonco: It's a one player game but if you get a pizza and have friends who aren't scatter brained, you can have a good time. My friend and I played through them and took pages of notes, you kind of just have to let yourself get very into theorizing. It's a thinkers game, we were drawing maps, connecting things with arrows, etc etc, we were having a blast.

@Moonco: The physics are far from great but some of the investigations and puzzles are pretty good. Sherlock Holmes vs Jack the Ripper was great for me, i really enjoyed the real information that was included as well as the speculation as to who it was that really did it. The investigation at the corpses were fantastic as well. Give it a try if you're curious, I don't think you'll regret it at the price you can buy it for now.

First game wouldn't allow you to switch the vertical and horizontal camera independently, so if you played with inverted vertical controls, it would also invert it horizontally. Pretty much made it unplayable for me and was a waste of money, makes you wonder who the hell is making these games and have they ever played one before? Second one was on PS+ a while back but I never bothered downloading because of that, does anyone know if that simple ass feature was added to the second game? Because I do love me some crime solving, but not when basic movement is a chore though.

Hardly ground breaking but a step in the right direction for the series nonetheless. Let's hope that this means that the game world is a big one, previous iterations have always felt a little too confined and restrictive due to the limitations of the game world.
