New Sonic Forces Gameplay Video Shows Off Classic Green Hill Zone

Sonic Forces is looking good.

Sega has posted some more Sonic Forces gameplay footage, showing off the new version of the classic Green Hill Zone, complete with the music and sound effects you may remember.

It's not clear which version of the game this footage was captured on--PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, or Nintendo Switch--but it looks good.

Now Playing: Sonic Forces: Classic Sonic - Green Hill Zone Gameplay

The game, which is in development at Sonic Team, runs on a brand-new engine that Sega is calling "The Hedgehog Engine 2." The game's new name, meanwhile, is a reference to the battle between the forces of good and evil.

In other Sonic news, this year's other new Sonic game, Sonic Mania, has been delayed from this spring to summer. A more specific release date hasn't been provided yet, but Sega recently showed off the game again, teasing new enemies, preorder bonuses, a collector's edition vinyl album, and the return of the Flying Battery Zone. You can watch a video of that here.

This looks like a return to original form. No locked-in jump moves or wierd cameras.

I can get get down with classic Sonic like I can a game of Tetris. It's all in in the moment and takes all your focus...A great break no matter the old level name.

Poor Sonic. You were the man decades ago when "blast processing" was a thing and not every system could run fast graphics....but that day is long gone. Sega pushing Sonic today is like LG pushing COLOR tvs.

Again with this crappy Gamespot embedded players, you already upload your videos on Youtube why are you forcing us to use your crappy players? every single device i use either stutters\buffers\hangs\glitches when using your player.

Is it that hard to use the tried and true Youtube players? or are the chump change pennies you get that worthwhile over your members experience?

I truly understand the detractors this time.

Now that Sonic Mania is a thing, and will most likely be a hit and (hopefully) spawn more classic-era sequels, Classic Sonic no longer belongs mashed in with the modern era. He was there for Generations, and in my opinion, wasn't nearly "classic" enough.

This just looks meh......

Green Hill never looked this crappy.......what do I care, I stopped paying Sonic games when the 16 bit era died, I tried Sonic Adventure, hated it.....tried a few others and hated them.....i gave Sonic a chance but I accepted very early on that the 16 bit games are superior, Sonic doesn't translate to 3D like Mario does.....and these psudo 3D games look terrible.......

@darthrevenx: Don't be so fast to rush to judgement give the game a chance and what you are seeing is incomplete just wait for the final completed product and then not just you but the everyone can judge it.

@angrycreep: did you not read me???? i tried giving em a chance several times and finally said F em cus nothing they've done works....and they've tried every combination they could to make this crap work.....

if Sega wants to give Binary Domain a sequel I'd buy that......seriously Binary Domain earned a sequel, Sonic has not.....and I loved Sonic on the genesis.....

@darthrevenx: I understand your feelings here. But if you liked the 16 bit versions, then you might like Sonic Mania, which pays true homage to those classics.

@domiddian: I don't trust the brand anymore.....they've run Sonic into the ground and I've heard this song and dance before with the whole Generations game which sucked....what 2 or 3 levels of the whole thing were decent and apologists tried to say it was superb......

every time a Sonic game comes out they say eww this'll be better than the last few trust us and every time it's just another in a long line of bad games.....Sonic has joined the ranks of Assassins Creed, NFS, COD and others who need to go away....

Sega has other IP's that could probably translate to modern game design better like Vectorman or Hang On or Outrun and stuff like that......

I'd much rather play a modern Vectorman game even if it was a smaller arcade title.....they could more easily bring Vectorman into the modern age, he's a humanoid robot who can morph a part of himself or his entire body to perform various tasks.....they could do a modern 3D platformer with him on Mario's scale or larger.....

Outrun and Hang On have potential too, the on;y reason the previous games didn't do well is they were still arcade games trying to take your quarters and weren't proper console games [natural progression, not just stages of a race and odds stacked against you]

Afterburner was another, the reason the last gen arcade game failed was it was too short, not enough content vs price and wasn't doing anything more than the original game like it was stuck to the first game's template.....in this, Outrun and Hang On's case it would have benefited to use some of the template of the originals but to go way above those games and do more....add more cars and bikes and planes to choose from, use modern music that fit the games etc

Sonic has exhausted every possible avenue to improve and each time has failed outright.......or only managed to impress a small few.....remember Sonic Boom? remember what they said about that sh**t show??? same friggin song and dance as we've seen every friggin time......

This is a good stage to show the engine. Do hope sonic gets his mojo back, too many bad games under his name already!

Probably opening myself up for a battering here, but if it's anything like Generations I'll enjoy it. And Sonic Mania looks awesome.

Don't hate, peeps; there are more good Sonic games than bad ones.

No reason for this to exist, because of Sonic Mania. The only difference in the classic stages is red rings and bad 3d graphics. Sonic Mania is just going to be competition for this game, or at least 1/3rd of it. They should cut out classic Sonic and just focus on making the other parts good.

I am so glad Sonic Mania is a thing. That way I don't have to care how this game goes. Hope for the best, expect the worst. That's the life of a Sonic fan.

'Sonic Forces' seems like a bad name for a game when I read the headline as

New Sonic

Forces Gameplay

Video Shows Off Classic Greenhill Zone.
