New Spider-Man Movie Adds Donald Glover to Star-Studded Cast - Report

Spider-Man: Homecoming has already snagged Robert Downey Jr., Marisa Tomei, and possibly Michael Keaton for its cast, but it's not done yet. The Hollywood Reporter says actor and rapper Donald Glover is in talks to join the new Spider-Man movie's cast.

Although Glover won't play Spider-Man in Homecoming, he has voiced a version of the character in the Ultimate Spider-Man animated series. He played Miles Morales, the Ultimate Spider-Man, in two episodes titled "The Spider-Verse." Glover also made waves on social media when he said he wanted to be Spider-Man in a live-action movie. The hashtag #DonaldForSpiderMan trended on Twitter that weekend.

Despite Glover's impassioned support, Tom Holland is Homecoming's Spider-Man. He made his first appearance in Captain America: Civil War, in which he helped Iron Man and friends take on Captain America's team at the airport in Germany.

Other actors set for the movie include Tony Revolori (The Grand Budapest Hotel), Laura Harrier (One Life to Live), and Zendaya (K.C. Undercover).

Spider-Man: Homecoming opens in theaters on July 7, 2017.

Homecoming is a collaboration between Sony, who owns the movie rights, and Marvel. Despite Sony's ownership, Marvel president Kevin Feige says his studio has complete control of the upcoming Spider-Man movie.

"Well, I've known all those people [at Sony] for a very long time. Amy Pascal, Tom Rothman, who runs Sony now, I've known for years. So, it’s been great," he explained. "They really are supportive in allowing us to make the creative decisions to make that movie, but they've been great partners. So far so good on that movie."
