New Star Wars Battlefront 2 Content On The Way

The Force lies in wait.

While everyone's looking ahead to upcoming Star Wars releases such as Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order (November 15) and Star Wars: Episode 9 – The Rise of Skywalker (December 20), video game publisher Electronic Arts announced some new content for the not-yet-forgotten Star Wars Battlefront 2.

Dennis Brännvall, franchise design director for Star Wars Battlefront, took to Twitter to outline the new content in a community update video. The update, set to launch sometime this month, introduces new characters and firepower. Droidekas and the Galactic Republic TX-130 tank from the Clone Wars will finally roll out, alongside a new set of digs for Anakin Skywalker and the 212th Recon Division and 41st Scout Battalion troopers. Check out the announcement below.

We also got a sneak peek at what's to come. A new planet called Felucia is in the works, as well as "new ways to play the game." Brännvall didn't specify when Felucia will be available nor did he clarify what "new ways to play" means.

EA CEO Andrew Wilson said Star Wars Battlefront 2 is "a great game" in a May 2019 earnings call. Wilson was keenly aware of what microtransactions did to the game's reception, noting that they "clouded what was otherwise a really great game." However, he called attention to developer DICE's continued effort to support and improve the title, stating the shooter is now "a really strong game with really strong player sentiment."

In our Star Wars Battlefront 2 review, we gave it a 6/10 at launch, saying, "While its main narrative feels unresolved, and the general loop of the multiplayer carries a number of issues, Battlefront II still manages to evoke that same sense of joy and excitement found in the core of what the series is all about."

What you play this game ?

I feel offended that you’re enjoying something I never will because I’m too butt hurt about the controversy surrounding the game instead of seeing it for what it is .

I’m sure it’s not enjoyable and you’re wrong because I have no experience playing it and I heard on the YouTube’s that it was indeed terrible . The internet doesn’t lie to me it never has it never will

@jyml8582: No lootboxes have been obtainable in game for over a year. Your "joke" is horribly outdated.

@lord_edge: you might be right, I don’t play the game, I just enjoy making fun at those who do. Those of you who are still playing BF2, Anthem, and every god forsaken slot machine simulator released by EA, you are the very reason why they are the way they are, you are the virus to this disease that’s plaguing the gaming industry. Stop supporting evil, unethical companies like EA, seriously!

@jyml8582: But there's no slot machines (or loot boxes or whatever the **** you want to call them)? Look man, fight whatever battle you want, I'm going to continue to play a video game that I enjoy made by developers with passion for the project and you can continue to whine about my enjoyment online if that's what you truly want to do. If you don't want to buy the game, than there's nothing on gods green earth that I can do to make you do so, but don't pretend to be superior for choosing not to buy electronic entertainment meant for the enjoyment of Star Wars fans and gamers and calling yourself the good guy in the war against predatory publishers because of it, especially with such outdated information as you have so far presented in this comment section.

Hell no, lego star wars the skywalker saga is where it's at. Screw EA and their "suprise mechanics"

@illusivepickledonionman: And screw Disney and their handling of Star Wars. Should have pulled out from EA after the BF2 debacle but kept on. No. Disney can do whatever the hell they want. Yes. They can. Oh yes. They can. They choose to be aholes.

@Blade_Runner_07: Um, you do realize it's a two way street, right? Disney and EA have a contract. Disney can't just pull out of the deal without huge financial ramifications. It makes much more sense to stick with it and try to avoid repeating the mistakes of BF2.

I can't believe we still can't play the original checkpoint capture that made the original series great -- and most of all be able to play it in single player or co-op mode! I want to like this game so much but its like a disappointing relationship I still hope is going to work out.

@Smokin105: That would require that EA actually listen to the fans and implement something that doesn't drain us of more money...so we all know the likelihood of that happening.

@Smokin105: Yep, lack of modes is still one of the weak points. The big maps could all easily support some version of tug-of-war, like Supremacy from Battlefront '15 or Frontlines from BF1 and V, but nope, somehow they can't even do that
