New Trailer For Like A Dragon 8, Now Called Infinite Wealth, Shown At Xbox Showcase
Ichiban and Kiryu are back in business in the next game in the series formerly known as Yakuza, and uses RPG combat again.
The Yakuza train keeps on rolling as Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth, previously called Like A Dragon 8, was shown at the Xbox Games Showcase with a new and bizarre trailer. The game was revealed during Tokyo Game Show in 2022 with a brief teaser showing both protagonists Kasuga Ichiban and Kazuma Kiryu together under the iconic red sign in Kamurocho. This new trailer gave us a glimpse into the next chapter in Ichiban's life where he wakes up on a public beach... naked.
The trailer featured English speaking characters who were shocked and appalled to see Ichiban unknowingly strutting his stuff after being washed ashore, which leads us to believe it's taking place in Hawaii in addition to Kamurocho. There wasn't any gameplay in the trailer, but we'd suspect it to feature the turn-based RPG combat from Yakuza: Like A Dragon. It's set to launch sometime in early 2024--while it was revealed on the behalf of Xbox, we'd expect it to come to PlayStation 5 as well.
A few additional screenshots were shared alongside the new trailer. One showed Ichiban with Nanba and Adachi combining their powers together, which hints at the RPG party dynamic from the previous entry. Another shows a cutscene with Ichiban and Kiryu together at night time, and yes, Kiryu is rocking that uncanny hairstyle.
The other upcoming game in the Yakuza series, Like A Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name, also got a new trailer during the Summer Game Fest presentation. It focuses on Kiryu and what happened to him between the events of Yakuza 6 and Yakuza: Like A Dragon. That game uses the action-brawler combat the series has been known for. It's set to launch on November 19 this year.
