New Until Dawn Trailer Serves Up Fresh Nightmares
This new look at Until Dawn shows off some grisly content.
A new trailer has gone live for Until Dawn, the upcoming film adaptation of Supermassive's horror game. Starring Odessa A'zion, Michael Cimino, Maia Mitchell, Ella Rubin, Belmont Cameli, Ji-young Yoo, Willem van der Vegt, and Peter Stormare as Dr. Hill, the film is due to hit theaters on April 25.
"One year after her sister Melanie mysteriously disappeared, Clover and her friends head into the remote valley where she vanished in search of answers," the official film synopsis reads. "Exploring an abandoned visitor center, they find themselves stalked by a masked killer and horrifically murdered one by one--only to wake up and find themselves back at the beginning of the same evening."
Until Dawn isn't a shot-for-shot adaptation of the video game, but it does have some connective tissue with it in the form of a time-loop that makes the cast experience multiple deaths. Similar to the choose-your-own-demise gameplay that allowed players to explore the consequences of their choices, this will allow the film to effectively restart several times as the cast has to figure out a way to survive.
"Every time they come back to life, it's like they're in a new horror genre. To survive, they have to make it until dawn," director David F. Sandberg in a recent behind-the-scenes look at the film.
This is just one of several feature film and TV series adaptations of video games scheduled to be released this year. The Minecraft Movie is scheduled to arrive on April 4, and the backend of the year will see Mortal Kombat 2 (October 24) and Five Nights at Freddy's 2 (December 5) land on the big screen. HBO's The Last of Us Season 2 debuts in April, Twisted Metal Season 2 is currently in development, and Fallout could have some big surprises when it returns to TV.
As for Until Dawn developer Supermassive Games, it showed off new footage of its upcoming sci-fi horror game, Directive 8020, and confirmed an October release date for it.
