New Warhammer Game's PS4/Xbox One Development Halted; Comes to PC Soon

This "will result in an optimized and extended experience" when the console versions are released.

Warhammer 40,000: Eternal Crusade launches for PC next month, but development on the Xbox One and PS4 versions has been temporarily halted, Bandai Namco announced today.

The PC version of Eternal Crusade, the new online Warhammer shooter from developer Behavior Interactive, will exit Early Access and release in full on September 23. The console versions, however, will now launch "at a later date" that was not specified.

"We are committed to delivering the best experience for the release on September 23, with a PC version that matches our ambitions in terms of content and quality and sets the runway for our free lifetime expansions," said Behavior's Stephen Mulrooney in a press release. "To pause the development of the console versions was a tough decision but will result in an optimized and extended experience when released.”

Disappointing as this might be for some, it is commendable that the console versions won't be rushed out the door.

Eternal Crusade has been available in Steam Early Access for some time now, though it doesn't offer the MMO elements that make up the complete experience. The current version sells for $40, with in-game credits also sold for real-world currency.

The full game promises to let you take part in PvP and PvE battles between four factions (Space Marines, Chaos Space Marines, Orks, and Eldar), with players able to choose to align with 20 different sub-factions. There will also be "hundreds of weapons" along with customization options and accessories "drawn from 29 years of Warhammer 40,000 lore."

Don't buy it, it's beyond finished. It needs at least another 2 years in early access.

My interest in this game has melted with every teaser, alpha footage, and scrap of information that gets released. Not interested. Give me Inquisitor or the (suspiciously quiet) Space Hulk any day.

.....aaand nothing of value was lost with it not coming to consoles. It's a low quality game from a low quality dev. PC guys can have it.

Call me when Deathwing is ready to roll on Scorpio and I'm there.

Perfectly fine with that, the PC version should be getting priority at the moment as a lot of things still need some polish(As well as working on getting to the MMO aspect).

@DemoKnight10656: Thankfully not near as bad, Assault Marines and Raptors can be dealt with rather well as long as you play it smart(A perfectly timed stun can give you a chance to lob krak grenade on them or escape). The rest of the game isn't entirely completed however and it will take time before everything they plan on adding is completed(MMO, Terminators, factions, etc). The plan on doing all factions however many are confused as how some will work such as the Imperial Guard(Love them to death, but they are squishy).

@Mogan: Trailers can often be deceptive, if you enjoyed Space Marine's multiplayer then this may be appealing to you. If you didn't then this may not the game for you. The gameplay is a more complex Space Marine right now that can be very tactical at times(Creating a shield wall with a bunch of Storm Shields while you have players lobbing grenades over top of you can create an awesome gaming experience ).

It isn't as refined as planned(which is why I question them releasing it, it still has some to go), yet it is still a very enjoyable game if it appeals to you.

Also I'm a major 40k fanboy so that does play a factor in my enjoyment, yet not the majority.

Kind of sounds like Planetside but on the Warhammer universe.

Am I wrong?

@rosinmonkekyx17: For now they are not comparable, at the current moment it is just matchmaking yet still contains the persistent war. It is more akin to Heroes and Generals at the moment yet their plans are to make it more like an open world mmoFPS similar to planetside(Granted it is in third person and some things are handled differently like the Tyranids system).
