During its Treehouse Live presentation at E3 2016, Nintendo has officially announced the full title for its upcoming Wii U and NX Zelda game, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is Nintendo's only playable game at E3 this year "in order to provide attendees a complete immersion."

Breath of the Wild was originally scheduled to launch for Wii U in 2015. The game was initially delayed to give its development team more time to realize "several new possibilities" for the game. Now, Breath of the Wild is scheduled to launch on both Wii U and Nintendo's upcoming NX platform at an unspecified date in 2017.

Stay tuned to GameSpot for more Zelda news and gameplay info from Nintendo Treehouse Live presentation as it unfolds.

Let's be honest, this looks fantastic! I'm so hyped for this game, this along with God of War was the highlights I've seen so far :)

This game would have been delayed for over 2 years by the time of its release.

NX will be releasing next year to combat xbone and ps4 yet by that time xbox will have Scorpio.

Nintendo sure know how to fall behind.

This looks great, I just want to know when it takes place in the timeline. I figured Nintendo's next console Zelda title would be a sequel to Skyward Sword, and the "untamed wilderness" theme of this game seems to support that, so I hope that's what this is.

I'm cautiously optimistic. I want this to be good. And Nintendo desperately needs it to be good.

I want to thank Gamespot for this. Ad video plays flawlessly at 60fps. Game video fails to load. Refresh page. Ad video again flawlessly at 60fps. Game video stutters, gives error at 5 seconds. Close Chrome, open Firefox. Ad video plays flawlessly. Game video fails to load. Close Firefox, open Edge. Ad video plays flawlessly. Game video plays till the end, but with 3 stops of around 10second each for buffering.

Congratulations Gamespot.

-=EDIT=-
Apologies, I forgot to add that I had to sit through the entire ad video all 4 times.

@wanderingknight: Yep, I did. I'm ashamed I didn't think of it earlier. Higher resolution, no buffering, and no ads. I think that's what I'll do from now on with video game trailers that interest me.

Very excited, I fear having to use the shitty game pad for parts of the game and that would ruin it for me. The motion controls in Skyward Sword and Twilight Princess on the Wii made me quit playing so I never finished either, those controls just kept pulling me out of the experience and made me never want to go back

I really liked what I saw. I am a big fan of Wonderboy (platformer), and I like the RPG elements in cartoonish games, and that game brought some childhood memories. Unfortunately I don't own a Wii U console, but I am happy for those who will be able to play it. Looks like a great game!

Wow, first Zelda with actual dialogue, thank GOD. Zelda games are so outdated, its about time they modernized.

Link actually being called Link, Full Body Battle Armor, New Music, New hairdo, looks like Zelda has finally matured into modern day gaming.

If I had to sit through another Zelda game that same crap music, same crap weapons, and same crap mechanics, I'd kill myself. This looks like a Zelda I can look forward to.

@kazeswen: If they had done the same old thing, it would have earned the same old score of 9 or 10 here. Critics will be terrified of this change.

@timthegem: Sad but true. Change isn't always good, but I think for Zelda it can only be good. Lets see what happens when the reviews come out.

But in all honestly, the whole cut the grass get hearts, play mini games get heart container, get boomerang, get fire arrow, get grappling hook to access new location, is getting so rote, its not even funny. Literally its all so robotic, that sitting through another Zelda is a chore. Zelda has become so cliche filled its not even remotely entertaining anymore.

It took people dying (literally), and an entire failed console for Zelda to finally move forward. Some of it has to do with the critics insessant praise over what essentially is 2 decades of recycled content. Thank god, Wii U failed and now Nintndo is finally opening their eyes to world beyond their cave.

This is Nintendo's attempt at throwing shade. Sony and Microsoft? They don't have immersion at their booths because they've got too many games.

This looks like crap. This is basically an indie game, almost looks like they are trying to copy Rime.

Cel-shading is the only way the Wii U can render more than one tree at a time.

@grbolivar: Should we tell @grbolivar that cel-shading is harder to produce correctly and more computationally complex than realistic graphics?

I think it's very fitting title based on the footage we're seeing. Though I would've love for this new Zelda game to be release this year but holding it out just for NX isn't what I expected but hey, I hope the wait was worth it.

Love the art direction. Refreshing to see a AAA game not try to look ultra realistic. This is definitely atop my Christmas list this year. *Edit* did not realize Zelda is coming out 2017 ha

@BlackBaldwin: We are gens away from games looking like real life. I meant graphics that strive for a realistic look instead of a cartoon/anime style.

No idea how I feel at this point... I don't think I'll know whether or not to buy it until I see the NX, its daft that we still know nothing about the console even though it has games announced and its out in less than a year

It looked kind of dumb. I hate the direction they have moved with Zelda over the last 5 years. Used to be my favorite series, but it just lost too much of what i loved about it. The trailer they showed made this game look boring... just a bunch of running around and climbing. That will get old very fast. I went in with low expectation hoping to be impressed, and i walked away even LESS excited

@Poodger: That's the problem with open-world game, you prolong the game by the players just moving more and you throw an enemy once in a while. It's better to have a small map with tons of things to do than this.

@killerious: 100% agree. Its why i dont like sprawling open world games like GTA, Skyrim and the like. I loved how tight and focused older zelda games felt
