Madden might be good this year. 2K has done well in making their own game, both for giving an alternate experience and in forcing EA to step their game up.

This year's Madden is sounding more and more like a worthy purchase ...finally.

BigDaveyDogz et al.: Live for Windows does have both Gold and Silver, but they don't work quite the same as on the 360. On Windows you can play others with just a Silver account, but you can't do cross-platform play, and I think you also don't get voice chat or matchmaking. M$ realized that PC gamers are used to getting online play for free, so they opened up the free Silver account for them.

What!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh come on i am not a fanboy i say the facts and if one system is supirer to another then it is, i don't realy care what system is better other than if it has good games. If the PS3 had good games then it has good games, every system is equal, why/ because if there were no games for the system (like that would ever happen) then each system would be a useless piece of junk. I feel I must reiterate my concerns about the brand loyalty among the so oft called "fanboys". Something so petty shouldn't propel people who have never even met to insult each other. You're young, you've got too much testosterone, and you're hormones make you feel the need to be competitive about which gaming console is your console of choice. Perhaps there's some Froidian connotation there. The bottom line, in regard to which console is better: All of the current gen consoles have something unique or exclusive to offer. There are great games on all of 'em, so grow up, knock off the fanboy crybaby crap and admit that you wish you had all three consoles and both handhelds, because quite frankly, there are at least 5 fantastic, must have games on every system available. Sure it sucks when you can't afford all of them, but it in no way diminishes the value of the system or it's library of games. You just feel insecure because you don't have one, so you attempt to compensate by trashing every platform you don't have. Nearly every hard core gamer that loves sniping Chimera in Resistance: Fall of Man is going to equally relish the thought of chainsawing the Locust Horde in Gears of War. Great games are great games, and brand loyalty is for brainless drones. Play games because they're excellent, not because of which multi-billion dollar corporation wanted your money badly enough to put a quality product out for a change, or to see talent in a third party developer and fork out the cash so that they can profit from said developer's labour. Go get a girlfriend or a job kids. Defending Sony won't bring back Kutaragi San, or earn back Sony's lost billions or maligned fans. Only good games can solve their problems, not teenagers and male posturing.

In regard to the specific controversy over the XBOX LIVE service versus Sony's online service: In the past Sony's free service has been laggy as hell. Perhaps they've taken sufficient steps to ensure that their user base will have access to lag free play, at no charge, but until they start pushing some consoles there aren't enough PS3 users online to really test those waters. I've paid my 50 bucks for LIVE this year, and I thus far feel it was money well spent, but under no circumstances do I want to have to purchase downloads by credit card, so if that's my only option once I get a PS3, that's a strike against them. I'm perfectly happy buying a Microsoft "points" card when I pick up a download laden game, and if Sony took a similar approach it would be a wise move on their part.

Jeez kids, enough with the fanboy crap. Both systems have their advantages, and drawbacks, but lets face the fact that the PS3 at this point has a smaller built in community due to slower sales, and waaay fewer stand out games than it's competition. I've been a happy Sony consumer for years, but I went with Microsoft in '07 because Sony just didn't have enough first party goods this year. When Heavenly Sword, Ratchet and Clank, and Metal Gear Solid 4, and Warhawk, are out, it will be a more reasonable proposition to spend 700 bucks on a machine. I'll pick one up in September. Also I'd really love to know where all the third party support is. Okami, Ico/Shadow of the colossus, Sly cooper, and Jak and Daxter should all be getting next gen sequels, but no word form any of Sony's in house greats. Give me some of that stuff and I'm sold. I got a psp just for Ratchet and Daxter alone. Make me a believer with more than one great game Sony. I have to buy a Wii now just for Resident Evil 4. I already have it for two systems and I'll buy it again. It just takes a few good games to get my console buying dollar, but Sony hasn't done it for a lot of us just yet.

George_Gameguy: 7. From a 100% neutral point of view, the PS3 version is being released SEVEN MONTHS later than the Xbox 360 version! That really is crappy, and it NEEDS to be taken into consideration, especially because the Xbox 360 version has become a best-seller, and as a result often sells for $39.99, compared to the overpriced $59.99 that the PS3 version will be released for when it launches. So you mean to tell me that when the game first came out for the 360, it was only $39.99? You are a moron and a fanboy at it's best. So what if the game was released 7 months earlier for your problem-prone system. It was $59.99 when it first released. Then you had to pay extra for the additional maps and modes. PS3 owners are getting the game plus the extra content for the same price as the 360 version when it came out. This game is not being released for those that have already played it on the 360. It is for PS3 owners who would like to play the game. In 7 months when it becomes a best-seller on the PS3, the price will be reduced to $39.99 with the extra content still free of charge. Your arguement on this point is worthless. Your blind fanboyism is amazing. How you have gotten through life to this point being the ignorant person that you are is unbelievable.

They don't look stupid at all. They are space saving for a start and don't copy what Xbox, GC, and Wii did with the PS2 game cases. I love how they are clear instead of boring coloured plastic, and I love how the PS3 logo down the side always looks different.

xbox live users how do you feel about the pc not being charged for the same service you guys have to pay for. Xbox live is better but not $50 better!

I dont really get what live has over ps3 online i understand it goes in to a little more detail with communication but apart from that i dont know why live users are charged so much when you get exactly that same online play as a ps3.

free online play for the PS3 is sweet. instead of paying £30 on live I play all my online games on the PS3. this means I can use that money on downloadable stuff and new games. sorry 360 owners but I do not care about the Xbox live capabilites as all I need it for is to play other people on resistance or the upcoming warhawk.

Give up the "but you have to pay for it" arguement. WAY beyond a dead horse... and was years ago. get a better job and enjoy both consoles.
