NewsSpots: Ubisoft on PS3, SOE Fan Faire, Namco Museum Wii, BioWare talent search

Ok First off that is complete crap about the PS3 cost, look at the new Elite for 360 $480.00, for hdmi and a 200 gig hard drive, add on wireless internet and HDD, the cost = 780.00. Now some may argue you are getting a bigger hard drive, but I can get a 200 gig internal hard drive or bigger of any make for cheap compared to that. Not to mention the fact that the 360 still has a crap processor and a 50% fail rate. So for a 180.00 less I get a system with Blue ray which in my eyes is a huge advantage, the amount of data that can be stored on that thing will only give games depth never thought of before, 360 will have 3 discs just to try to keep up. The truth is right now 360 has awesome games but has a crap system that will turn most likely into the new Nintendo handhelds (constantly getting partial upgrades, rather then putting out a solid product to begin with.). As games roll out this fall the momentum will get bigger and stronger and I can't wait. Until then I am happy playing my 360 (as long as it doesnt break again!!!)

Yeah, PS3 price needs to go down. Do it before Uncharted, GTAIV, Killzone and Heavenly Sword and Christmas should be great for Sony.

you can tell sony is struggling, they are forcing just about every high-profile game with online to go online-only and be downloadable just to have the game out on the system so they can sell more. its pathetic.

From a technical standpoint the PS3 is worth the money, but from a practical standpoint (as far as gaming goes) it is not. As far as price goes I think it needs to be reduced to $399, or at the most, $449 USD. Removing hardware BC should reduce production costs helping Sony achieve this price point. But of course it's not just the price, and I don't expect the CEO of a major publisher to suggest it either, but the system just doesn't have anything worth buying that cannot be played on another, cheaper, system. Sure there are many Resistance fans, but I'm fairly positive that most gamers don't view Resistance as a system seller. Especially when said system is $600. What about Motorstorm then? Well the game is excellent at its core, but that's largely all there is. The game suffers from a horrendous deficiency of features that terribly hurt its depth and replay value. The exact same thing can be said about Virtua Fighter 5. In short while the lack of games factor exists, Sony needs a $150-200 price reduction to start moving systems. If the games start to roll I'll pay the $600 for the machine, but a lot of people won't. And unless Sony does something substantial about the price I very much doubt they'll find themselves in any position above 3rd in North America or Europe. And don't think for a second that companies won't consider omitting lower-profile titles from the PS3. Especially given the difficult nature expressed by developers of making games for the PS3. If Sony cannot put enough of these babies into homes I think we'll start to see less and less 3rd party support for the PS3 simply because the return doesn't warrant the cost.

my point on the previous post was not about hte price but about the PS3 could offer aside from the price. I know the thing is expensive! but it doesn't dseerve so much bashing. the price has definitely become a gateway for "things sony has done wrong" and the thing that trumps the "things that sony has done right"

Alan Wake, BioShock and Splinter Cell is coming on PC (last one was pretty clear though). So yeah in the end you're left with Halo 3, Halo Wars and Lost Odyssey. Numbers doesn't really matter and like i said X360 had an early start. PS3 is gonna come strong at the end of 2007 I think at least with titles like Heavenly Sword, Lair, Warhawk, Socom (?), Ninja Gaiden Sigma and MGS 4. And they still got some others in the further future (Gran Turismo 5, Tekken (6?), Final Fantasy XIII (& the versus version)). This is why I'm leaning towards PS3. If I would like to play a FPS I'd use my PC for everything else there is consoles (lmao just watched an old Mastercard commercial).

Yes, it does actually. I don't see how the ability to sync up your PSP and PS3 somehow makes it worth 600 dollars, but that's your opinion.

I get the whole price arguement. The PS3 is expensive. But things are coming out that might be worth the $600. However, GS and other people in the industry still frown on those efforts. Forget that you can sync your PSP and PS3. forget that you can now play ps1 games on both the PS3 and PSP. forget that home might actually be interesting. forget the fact that the PS3 is still more backwards than the 360 even without the EE chip. Forget you can use your phones bluetooth head set to avoid another $20-30 on a new headset periferal. because all of that pales in comparison to xbox live and gears and halo 3. and that's whhat i read and hear

WTF @ Ubisoft? It's saying the PS3 needs to lower the price right now significantly or else, and then they go out and say they are making an exclusive for the PS3? That is self-contridicting.

Ubi Soft needs to get off their high horse and quit creating crap titles. WTF....RB6:V has been delayed for the PS3 like twice. LOL @ them making a PS3 exclusive. You know they have plans to multi platform that title.

No matter what you sony lovers think, it's about games. Remember PS2? Its a crappy system with the some of the greatest games of all time....... PS2 sucks......................................... But the games don't............. PS3 needs to do the same thing, get some fricken great games................. I dont know I think after they use the MGS4, and Final Fantasy "the real one" and even maybe a SOCOM US NAVY seals Next Gen version "how sick would that be online, on a full running Home". And of course Like the Sly Coopers, Kingdom Hearts 3, Killzone, GOD OF WAR 3, RESISTANCE 2, and stuff. And of course the real Gran Turismo 5. And quite a few others like the shadows of Colossus people, and stuff. But I don't think exclusives will be a problem. More so the problem is. Those games are going to be so Next Gen "vary detailed", they take forever,, till 2008 or 2009 to make. After mega real Next gen games like that are out. It will be interesting to see what happens than. How does my message go above yours when edited lol?? Oh cool,, they just announced the SOCOM for the Next gen. its all economics, and who is willing to pay. Since exclusives are a thing of the past and graphics are very close in quality, Sony really has not justified the higher price. I really do think that its a superior machine all around but all things being equal, it will only get hand me downs from 360 because they have more systems on the market. Sony has to first prove to dev's that the system is worthy in their eyes, and then prove to us gamers. It has way better functions than the 360 but people will not see that at first, they will only see the price and the games. Since more games are on 360 and the same games are on both systems, whats the use in purchasing the higher priced system. Sony better start buying some exclusives or else..... thats coming from a fan that loves Sony to death but plays them all.

Ubisoft wont make a PS3 game, it was just BS so they could BS. They probably wont be a company in 8 years if they choose the way they choose now lol. Its slowly falling apart even already, the whole plan of Microsoft owning this gen. You just knew the BS would not make it past 2008 or 09. The no mod 360 rule. Is gonna be a HUGE mistake. Also after looking at the Gamespots front page now. You just know the smack "or the equal to BS" is out. It comes in waves. Should be a few "PS3 not doing well" BS articles spread threw out this week, all in perfect succession lol

Ubisoft sux anywayz. I think they should lower the price on their games. Assassin's Creed is the only title I might consider getting from them. And I don't see what you guys talkin about "they're worried about themselves", they're a much larger supporter of X360/PC atm. They don't have any PS3 exlusives except for the one they announced (they do have a few X360 though I think) and they got a few games (in the works) that are for PC/X360 only. So if anythin, this is like a "we don't wanna loose money so let's put pressure on Sony to loose some for us"

who knew the smartest thing this console cycle was said by some dude at ubisoft. you'd think it would have been some prolific visionary. ubisoft might not have made a good game since chaos theory, but those guys know how to analyze. i think a price drop of at least a hundred bucks is in order. the ps3 was marketed as the cheapest blu-ray player out, but now, stand-alones are going for 500 bucks or less in some places. it may seem quick, but it's needed to gain more footing and get more units off of shelves.

Everyone keeps saying "why doesnt ubisoft worry about their own company instead of worrying about Sony" They ARE worrying about their own company. They're worried that since the PS3 isnt selling well any games they put out on it wont do well either because of the somewhat low amount of PS3s in peoples homes.

price drop would be cool............i just dont want to pay 600 for Metal gear solid...ill shell it no matter what but...man.....majorly would be bummed if they dont drop it before then....i like my 360 and until i see more than just metal gear than i still say no to the system...i have an open mind unlike most people who think that the console war is over and that ps3 or 360 already won....haha.it just started...calm down buy what you want and be happy with it...don't buy it just cuz your a fan boy or everyone else has it...do what makes YOU happy =) posiXcore

Offhand I cant think of another title (R6:V) that's had such a delay and shown virtually NOTHING to validate it. Same can be said for Splinter Cell (some 20fps extravaganza THAT was!), and I've strayed way away from Blazing Angels from word of mouth alone. Take you guys since before November to figure out how to implement Sixaxis? Worked GREAT *sarcasm* in SC:DA-- disabled right off the bat. Throw in some map packs --supposedly?... Ill believe it when I see it-- WHEN I RENT IT. Maybe you should spent some of that loot you keep touting to your shareholders that you're raking in on some people who know how the hell to implement textures. Mortal_Days people don't want the best of everything. The majority has spoken. No one who is reasonable is going to pay 600$ for a system. Sony is trying to force BluRay into our homes and we the consumer do not like things being forced upon us. The same thing comes with Microsoft's windows Vista. The point is Sony made a big mistake and is paying the price for it. If they were smart they would get rid of BluRay all together and revert back to HD DVD. Then cut the price.

PS3 is still a much better quality system no matter what the price tag is. Besides, the price tag is VERY reasonable when it offers best of everything. I mean, most average gamers would buy the other consoles because they are more affordable. If you have the cash, who wouldn't go with the TRUE next gen, the Playstation 3.

Maybe Ubisoft should drastically reduce the prices of their cheap ports to the Wii, that would help them more.

All this talk of PS3 price declines will hurt PS3 sales as people will put off buying the console, thinking the price will drop later. This then worries developers who will start to lean towards wii and 360 games. That in turn will hurt PS3 sales as buyers see fewer games. Yikes

okay first off. "ubisoft should worry about their business and let sony worry about theirs" well maybe they should because sony cant get their head out ther A**. I know sony has already take a loss and lowering would seem to not help them in that, but it's kind of a risk/reward. yes this will loose a little more on each system but think about it. I would rather charge 15 dollars lose 5 and make 10 profit, than charging 20 dollars and no one buying it and making not a penny and still paying for the loss, not exact figures but you all get what I am saying. I have a 360 but I wouldnt mind sony doing better. hey systems are systems and video games are video games. the more the merrier and it would be good to have a lot of multiplatform diversity as well. if you say ubisoft should not worry about sony, well then maybe sony will just follow the path they are on and keep going down and down. I think if sony dropped prices they might take more of a hit, but the influx is sales and more titles being bought on sony platform would pay off in the long run. I think if they dropped their price it would be easier to sell on that plat. better to drop prices and sell games than having ubisoft just sell on microsoft because sony fell of completely. if sony would drop to microsoft price point I would go for one. make sense to me good seed planting by ubisoft

Sony is killing themselves with the $600 price tag. No wonder Ubisoft hasn't released the same games on the PS3 at the same time as the 360. Ubisoft seems to be waiting even though their games are complete. Where is Rainbow Six: Vegas? GRAW 1 & 2? Splinter Cell: DA? These games are finished for the PS3. Why release them on the PS3 when no one is buying the system.

Yves's comment is half there. A combination of quaility games and price drop will be key. Since the 20g PS3 didn't do too well verse it more expensive brother. Once the good games come out, in combination of bring back and dropping the price of the 20g, the PS3 will do fine. An exclusive game only for Europe? Kudos to Gamespot to implement the new " thumb up or down" feature to discourage excessive fanboy comments.

Price down would help, yes. Awesome content must go up, too. It's lacking, I'd rather buy a slim-silver PS2 than a PS3 right now. SONY sucsk compared to itself ...

I might buy if the price went down but I don't think it's a bad price for what you get... A dinner for 2 this week cost me almost $200 so who am I to complain about Sony's prices.

Yeah I'm pretty sure everyone wants the price to come down for the PS3. All the Sony fanboys who already bought one are going to disagree, but it's true. 600 bucks is a lot of money...100 bucks or even 50 bucks cheaper and THEN the sales of the PS3 will get better. At this point it's just a large pretty black box with no really exceptional exclusive games.

Imo, I don't think they want or care who "reigns" in any generation, just so long as they make good money, as any 3rd party would want to. A 3rd party developer should never favor any one system, they do that and they might as well consider themselves 2nd party or worse yet 1st if they're bought out.

You wont hear me complaining if the price is slashed on the PS3 :D Of course they need to make up for the $2 Billion in losses and then start to turn a profit, so it wont happen anytime soon :(
