Nexus Gaming took to reddit today, announcing their inability to represent their country at the WCG Grand Finals. Despite having the means to make their way to China, the team is reporting that they will not be allowed to participate.
"We emailed WCG asking for the reason behind our denial to attend the tournament, and were told 'in order to have a team in the GF for League of Legends you need to have Riot’s approval'. However, when contacting Riot about this, they told us that the decision for who attends the WCG finals is all on WCG and not Riot."
Nexus Gaming, and their fans, are "disappointed" they will not be able to compete, however, according these WCG posts, the League of Legends division was never intended to head to the WCG Grand Finals, but instead receive a cash prize. Word of Tanks, StarCraft II, and Cross Fire were all eligible to send Canadian representatives.
From one of the posts:
"At stake, winners will have a spot on the Canadian Team to represent the country at the World Cyber Games Grand Final for the games Cross Fire, World of Tanks and Starcraft II. League of Legends is also part of the competition and the top three teams will win a cash prize."
