After revealing that certain modes and features hadn't made the cut for the Xbox One and PS4 versions of NHL 15, EA Sports has released a free update adding some of those things back into the game.
This update--the first of at least two that will add content perceived as missing from the current-gen console versions--does exactly what EA outlined earlier this month. Among other things, it introduces a Playoff mode (allowing you to play offline, playoff-style tournaments), as well as coach feedback in Be a Pro mode.
The full list of changes in this month's update, which is now available for download on Xbox One and PS4, follows:
- Playoff mode: An offline tournament mode for up to 16 teams will be added.
- Coach feedback in Be a Pro mode: While on the bench, your coach will offer you tips and feedback.
- Stars of the game: The end of a game in any mode will be marked with its three best players (and their stats) being highlighted.
- Ultimate Team changes: The store's layout will be updated, new animations will be added for items, and the edit lines screen will be improved.
We learned in August that the current-gen versions of NHL 15--the franchise's debut on Microsoft and Sony's newest consoles--would not include certain content seen in the last-gen versions (not to mention previous entries in the series). When fans got their hands on the game early through EA Access, we learned even more was absent than EA Sports had indicated. This led to the company outlining its plans for post-release updates that would add in some of this content.
Still missing even after this new update is the ability to draft players in Be a GM mode and Online Team Play mode. EA Sports continues to say both of these things will be added in future updates; according to the original schedule, we'll be seeing them released as part of the October update.
NHL 15 launched earlier this month. Our review found the current-gen version lacking; while it certainly looks pretty, there's no denying it's missing a great deal of content.
