Nike Released GoldenEye 007-Inspired Sneakers, And They Quickly Sold Out
James Bond in... Laces to Kill.
Nearly 27 years ago, GoldenEye 007 was a little too late to arrive alongside the James Bond movie that shares the same name. But it was just in time to become a breakout hit on Nintendo 64 and one of the most popular shooters ever made. Nike recently paid homage to one of 007's best video games with a pair of sneakers, but if you didn't grab them then you may have already missed your chance.
Via GQ, Nike released the Nike Air Max 1 Low Poly Big Head Mode sneakers earlier this week for $160 and they sold out almost immediately. The name is a reference to GoldenEye 007's Big Head Mode, which gave Bond a comically oversized noggin.

According to GQ, the black leather overlays are supposed to be a visual nod to Bond's iconic tuxedos, while the gold accents are a reference to the game's Golden Gun. But the best reference to the game is actually on the back of the shoe, which surrounds the Nike Air logo with GoldenEye 007's iconic health and armor bars.

This isn't Nike's first foray into gaming, as the sneaker giant released a pair of PlayStation 5-inspired sneakers in 2021. A year earlier, Nike and Microsoft teamed up for an Air Jordan-inspired edition of Xbox One X.
The Bond franchise recently went through some upheaval as longtime producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson were bought out by Amazon MGM Studios. Former Activision chief Bobby Kotick also shared that Broccoli didn't want guns in the 2010 remake of GoldenEye 007.
IO Interactive is currently developing the next James Bond game, which is currently referred to as Project 007. It will feature a younger Bond and serve as a new origin for the character. It will also be coming to Nintendo Switch 2. For fans of the movies, all six of the Sean Connery-led Bond films are getting a new 4k steelbook box set in June.
