Ninja Gaiden 2 Black Drops Today, Included In Xbox Game Pass

Koei Tecmo has plenty of surprises.

During the Xbox Developer Direct January 2025, Koei Tecmo surprised-dropped Ninja Gaiden 2 Black for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. The game is also available on Xbox Game Pass.

This is a remaster of the 2008 game and is described as the definitive way to play. "We also wanted to give players something to enjoy as they wait for the release of Ninja Gaiden 4," said producer Fumihiko Yasuda, in an interview with Xbox. "We chose Ninja Gaiden 2 because it stands as one of the most solid action games in the series."

Now Playing: NINJA GAIDEN 2 Black Official Launch Trailer

The "Black" moniker is to signify that this version of Ninja Gaiden 2 is the definitive way to play the game, similar to how the first Ninja Gaiden was remastered with the two additional Hurricane content packs.

The idea to remaster the game came from fan feedback during the release of the Ninja Gaiden Master Collection in 2021. Fans wanted an experience that was closer to the original Ninja Gaiden 2, so the developers sought to remaster it in Unreal Engine 5.

"We’ve meticulously incorporated some of the additions of Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 while staying true to the challenge and feel of the original 360 version, including its signature gore and violence," Yasuda explained. "We’ve also adjusted the weapon upgrade system to more align with the original release."

Ninja Gaiden has seen a huge resurgence as of late. At The Game Awards 2024, Koei Tecmo announced Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound, a 2D platformer by the Blasphemous developers. Now, Koei Temco announced Ninja Gaiden 4, the next mainline game in the series, along with a partnership with Platinum Games. It will launch this fall for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, as well as Xbox Game Pass.

Apparently the PC Game Pass version of Ninja Gaiden 2 Black is having a lot of problems, and Game Pass patch certification is causing delays in any fixes (not sure why they have certification if they let NG2B release this way on PC Game Pass). Some people are just buying the Steam version out of frustration because they want a working game. The Steam version doesn't seem to have the stuttering issues and problems with VRR and higher frame rates, and doesn't look like a blurry mess the way the Game Pass version does.

There seems to be no way for users to fix the game themselves because the game seems to prevent modding. The flexibility and customizability of PC gaming seems to be prevented by Microsoft.

Subscribers say this is continuing the trend of the PC Game Pass version being the worst way to play.

Ah yeah, a game that feels it was designed by Eli Roth, now back with what make it feel like that.

Or should I wait for the Black Sigma plus version?

Team Ninja lied.

When they released the master collection trilogy a few years ago, they claimed they could only release the Sigma versions of NG1 and NG2 because they had lost the source code for the original NG2 and NGB.

Code cannot be lost like car keys. They likely chose to release Sigma versions to avoid paying royalties to Itagaki who left Team Ninja under bad circumstances.

Ninja Gaiden fans are eating good today while fanbois who'll never touch a NG game act like they've "won a console war".

@RSM-HQ: who could hate this game? Ninja Gaiden in 2004 was one of the best action games and more difficult than Dark Souls.

I feel sorry for Sony fans at this point lol. Time to ditch it the PS5 and just GO XBOX and PC that would be the smartest move.

XBOX and PC has games!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@ceelogreen94: Ignoring the fact this game is coming to PlayStation ... what is the benefit of going Xbox and PC?

@mogan:

Well, the only benefit is the money saving part. If u have gamepass you just save yourself 50+ tax, and if you in PS, having a subscription not giving you anything, you still have to drop 50+ to play that game in your platform. But yes, is coming to all 3 platforms, there is no need for fighting. 🙄

@mogan: You can keep that trash station 5 if you want XBOX and PC is king and will be that for a long time man. Yeah, you 3 out of the 4 games on PS5, but you all don't buy games as far Sony is concerned.

South of Midnight is XBOX only, so yeah and everything else is on Game Pass. You have to pay full price for a game we get pretty much for free dude.

The death of the PS system is close, and you all can't see it. The top 5 games on PS are almost All Microsoft Games now dude just admit that Sony played you all. By the way I'm a PC player 1st although I love XBOX to death I could never just go full console lol.

@ceelogreen94: I don't own a PlayStation, and if you want to **** on a system and have fanboys fights, we have a Console Wars forum you need to go to instead. My question was what's the benefit of having an Xbox if you've already got a PC? I love my Series X as a platform, but I never play it because I've got a good PC, and everything that's on Series X I can get on PC where it usually runs and/or looks better.

@mogan: First off this isn't a console war lol... that is the first thing people who love Sony think about. It's facts, Sony is the company this Generation that can't deliver on anything. They rode the hype of the PS4 into this Gen and they are a complete failure of a company just like the PS3 early in its life cycle.

Also If it wasn't for 3rd party games and Microsoft giving them games they would even be around now. After 800 million dollars hit of concord. they lucky they have anything left at all at this point but people are seeing now that they are desperate. Which is why there will be no first party games until the PS6 unless they can squeeze a remaster out somehow.

@ceelogreen94: I asked about the Xbox, you keep responding with stuff about how terrible Sony is and claiming people who question you are Sony fans. You're making this a console war. If you want to do that, go to the System Wars forum. Do not continue to do it in the comments.

@mogan: stating that sony is bad isn't console waring at all. I would do the something if xbox was doing it. The benefit of the XBOX is GAME PASS and Exclusives even if they are timed. The only games that people are getting Ninja G4, 33 and Doom not South of Midnight isn't on PS5. Game Pass is the reason to buy an XBOX over the PS5 at this point.
