Nintendo 2DS Price Cut Starts Today

The price cut is for all 2DS systems, including the bundle that comes with Mario Kart 7.

Starting today, May 20, the Nintendo 2DS portable system is cheaper than ever. The previously announced price cut on the system kicks off today, bringing the handheld's price down to $80 from $100.

The system launched in 2013, priced at $130. The first price cut, in August 2015, brought the system down to $100. This is the second price cut for the entry-level device.

The 2DS plays almost the entire library of Nintendo 3DS games, but of course without the 3D effect. The system's standout feature is its design. Unlike past models, this one does not have any hinges.

Nintendo says, "the unique design is built to make it easy for smaller hands to hold." The price cut is for all 2DS systems, including the bundle that comes with Mario Kart 7.

Head to the Nintendo 2DS landing page on Nintendo's website to learn more and see a list of retailers.

2DS is considered part of the 3DS family, which has sold 58.85 million units as of March 31. However, there is no word on how many 2DS systems specifically have been sold.

Nintendo's next system, codenamed NX, is rumored to be a console/mobile hybrid, though the company has yet to share specifics. The system goes on sale in March 2017; it is not expected to show up at E3.

i dont understand how its for "smaller hands? the unit is not smaller than the 3ds... and the buttons dont go in, it's just a marketing ploy to get people to even further buy this for kids, but adults who ue a 3ds, the 2ds is not smaller...and nor is it for smaller hands, its the same dimensions, i use the 2d trigger grips and it makes the unit fit nice for bigger hands.but not even a 3d xl is big enough for my hands without a case that make it more bulky.as an adult with big hands and good 20x20 vision the 2ds is perfectly prices and more than viable with the right case like the 2d trigger grips for a stay at home portable gaming device.

@dawgrejectx: honestly if you look at the design of a 3ds and a 2ds, it seems like more of your hands will be on the 2ds than the 3ds, maybe the whole "for smaller hands" is because they know its actually for bigger hands, and parents would look at it like wtf my kid needs on like the 3ds where it had the buttons on the lower half vs the 2ds having the buttons on the top half...

Nintendo still didnt came to the idea to make the WiiU play all the 3DS games?
They could sell bunch of WiiUs and poeple would buy these 3DS games in the online store.

I might pick one of these up. I need a normal sized screen for certain things. Those shoulder buttons on it are godlike for 2D platformers, too.

A cheaper not so good Wii U would have been a great idea for those who wanted to play just one or two games on the system.

Great price for a great system. Probably the most comfortable handheld I've used. I would love to see a New 2DS XL though.

@bunchanumbers: Is it?

I'm fine with my 3DS, but this thing looks ugly and seems not confortable at all.

@Ant_17: its more comfortable you hold the unit with your hands not the pinchers on your 6 fingers, with a 2ds trigger grips its like having a smaller wii u pad or a xbox 1 controller, making smash alot nicer to play.i almost got a 3ds xl unti i realized the button placement on the 3ds xl and the lack of grips would not be as good as the 2d trigger grip case for smash.i have 20x20 so the 1inch differance isnt that huge, i find it more enjoyable to hold a controller not a piece of a board.

@Ant_17: I thought it was very comfortable. And although it has a small screen, it also has best visual quality since the bigger screen loses some. Definitely recommend for young ones

@iandizion713: Never had the chance to try it.

And i don't get what you mean by "it has better visual quality since the big screen looses quality".

@Ant_17: All the games are made for the normal screen. The 3DS XL screen stretches the image i think to fit the XL screen. (Seems the quality is the same across the two screens.)

@iandizion713: yea i noticed that the games look very pixelated on a ds xl, and some games more than others, the 2ds and 3ds the games look more crisp

@iandizion713: Yeah, i learned there is no point for an XL with the DS.

Well, might get one, cause my 3DS is really beat up.
