Nintendo Direct With News Of Wind Waker, Twilight Princess Remasters For Switch Coming In September - Report

The next Nintendo Direct could be held in September and has been described as a "Zelda blowout."

The next Nintendo Direct event is coming up in September, according to a report, one that also suggests that the showcase may be focused on The Legend of Zelda.

Jeff Grubb of GameSpot sister site Giant Bomb and Mike Minotti from GamesBeat discussed some possibilities on a podcast recently. As reported by VGC, Minotti said that the rumored September Nintendo Direct event will include the announcement of Wind Waker and Twilight Princess ports for Nintendo Switch. Grubb, meanwhile, said the September event will be a "Zelda blowout."

Both games were already updated on Wii U, but they haven't been re-released on Switch yet.

Whether or not this is a general Nintendo Direct that includes details on franchises outside of Zelda remains to be seen. Grubb went on to say that a Metroid Prime remaster is also in the works and could be announced at an upcoming Nintendo Direct. The game may be released in November around the franchise's 20th anniversary, Grubb has said.

A source told Grubb that the next Direct, whatever form it takes, should be held the week of September 12. If that's true, it'll be a very busy week for gaming news, as Ubisoft Forward takes place September 10 and Call of Duty Next is held on September 15.

In other news, Nintendo has confirmed it will not raise the price of the Switch following the news that Sony is increasing the price of the PS5 in many markets around the world.

This company keeps validating my choice to sell my Switch and remain mostly retro...

WWHD -> Wii U game
TPHD -> remake of a GC game, I hear it was inferior to the original
Link's Awakening -> remake of a GB game
BotW -> was fun, but all things considered, a disappointing Zelda game for many

New Pokémon Snap -> less charm than the original
Xenoblade Chronicles DE -> remake of a Wii game, arguably ruined art style

Any recent Kirby/Yoshi game -> sanitized and designed for children instead of all ages
(2D Mario has been a letdown since the New SMB series as well, soulless art style)
DKC Tropical Freeze -> Wii U game

Mario Party Superstars -> remake of the N64 games
Super Mario 3D All-Stars -> bad ports of N64/GC/Wii games
Super Mario Maker 2 -> Wii U game, now on a system not designed for it
Odyssey -> bloated collect-a-thon, makes DK64 and Tooie look reasonable (hot take)
Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury -> mediocre Wii U game with tacked on boring DLC
Captain Toad -> Wii U game
Paper Mario Origami King -> wake me up inside

MK8 Deluxe -> Wii U game with DLC
SSBU -> bloated Wii U game, no SP content, a stretch to call it a new SSB (hot take)

Aces -> good gameplay, bad story mode, bad online experience
Golf -> I hear everyone was disappointed
Strikers -> I hear it was kinda just the GameCube game again, no content at launch

Splatoon 3 -> more like Splatoon 1.4. Should be a free update like Overwatch 2

There's probably more I'm missing, but you get the point. There are a handful of actual good new Nintendo games on Switch, but there are WAY more rereleases and inferior sequels.

I hope the rumors of Metroid Prime remaster as true if not then I would welcome Wind Walker and Twilight Princess getting HD ports on Switch.

I'd prefer it if it would be under 60 bucks. But I wouldn't mind having Windwaker on switch. Bring back the Tingle bottles.

@kurohei: I'd buy it as a collection, but I'm expecting these to be sold separately for $60 a piece.

@judaspete: I love my switch, I love Nintendo games, but yeah, I agree and fully expect each to be released as their own $60 title unfortunately.

How many times are you going to rerelease these? How about finishing BOTW2?

@Thanatos2k: Get a Switch Emulator and play it there and don't let the big M take your money again for a slightly improved version.

@judahxii: Counter argument: Wind Waker is a 20 year old game that a lot of younger players haven't had a chance to play yet, and no one is buying a Wii U anymore.

@kurohei: So that justifies completely gouging their customers? a 20 year old game that looks arguably worse on the switch than it does through an emulator on PC, all while charging $60. Extremely anti-consumer

@zegaloth: Friendly reminder that downloading Roms is illegal. And no one's forcing you to buy it. Re-releasing games is not a new concept. The first Final Fantasy has been ported dozens of times.

@kurohei: Friendly reminder that your stance is everything that is wrong with the game industry, and why so many people will never experience great games that I grew up with.

I never said anything about downloading ROMs, you are aware that there are people who have equipment to back up their own games right?

Locking history and art behind a paywall is peak dystopia.

Your argument on legality is shaky at best, and is entirely dependent on the country you live in. Morally I see nothing wrong with playing games that otherwise would be forever lost in a landfill.

You do realize that cartridges for these games have a finite lifespan right? Games I own on my Nintendo no longer work, and according to you I should spend $60 for a "remaster".

As I stated before, totally anti-consumer, and corporate simps like you advocate for consumers to have even less control over the products they buy.

@zegaloth: So your game breaks, and you want a new copy for free? And yes, I'd prefer if Nintendo didn't charge $60 for a HD remaster, considering Metal Gear HD was 40 bucks for three game.

There's also that whole inflation thing where 50 dollars in 2002 is 80 bucks in 2022, but that's a whole capitalist argument that I want nothing to do with.

If you think paying full price for a re-release is the bane of the game industry, I don't want to know what you think of pay to win microtransactions.

@kurohei: Thank goodness for downloading roms!

Otherwise 99.9999 percent of legacy games would disappear forever!
