Nintendo Switch 2 'Leak' Could Offer A Very Blurry First-Look At The Console

The footage seemingly gives fans a first look at the Switch 2's version of joycons.

A low-quality video of what appears to be a Nintendo Switch 2 has emerged, prompting fan speculation over the as-yet-unseen console and the validity of this footage.

The video was posted on Chinese video site Bibli and was first spotted by Nintendo Soup (via Kotaku). The footage appears to show someone removing a joycon from the side of the Switch 2 screen by simply pulling it off. The controllers themselves seem to sport infrared sensors (on both the left and right joycons) and bigger shoulder buttons. This matches previous leaks, which suggested that the Switch 2 would have magnetic joycons and a more complex controller layout, though it would also maintain the same basic design as the original Switch. However, the blurry footage could be fake, and feature a version of the console constructed using information from prior leaks.

Details about the upcoming console are still scant. Nintendo has confirmed that an official announcement of the Switch 2 will arrive before April 2025. The console was previously rumored to release in 2024, but reports early this year claimed it had been delayed. The Switch 2 specs are still up in the air, though a Digital Foundry report claimed that the system would use an Nvidia custom T239 processor. Nintendo recently confirmed that the successor will be backwards compatible. Nintendo Switch Online will also carry over to the new system. At least one game has already been announced for the upcoming console.

We have 2x Switches, but I waited to buy my very own until we get a larger screen size in OLED. I hear Switch 2 will not be OLED, which I hope is a fallacy.

I hope this is fake. Magnets are a terrible idea especially if supporting a £300 console.

Perhaps that’s the idea. They must have made a fortune from joy cons due to their bad design this past 5 years.

Call me when I can play Nintendo games in 4k on the console itself rather than an emulator. Both ToTK and Metroid Dread look SO much butter on Yuzu/Ryujinx.

Hard to say if the video was the real deal but it will be interesting to see what kind of carrot Nintendo dangle in front of the consumer but the handheld market is actually looking very strong right now, with a lot of excellent, powerful & reasonably priced hardware, that can more than cope with pretty much anything that's thrown at them. Fact is though, you'll still be locked into a walled garden with Nintendo, with no hope of expanding your library. I don't think that's going to be enough to pull me in personally but there will be a boat load of consumers who will buy it, regardless. Hopefully, this time, they will power their hardware with something better than a Pentium 266 processor. We shall see.

@ecurl143: i have my PC and Steam Deck for an expanded library. The Switch has been an excellent companion system/side chick. I really only get Nintendo systems for their first party games, so as long as their system is a little more powerful than the Switch, I'll get one

What Nintendo needs to do is just put their games on PC so people stop emulating them. None of us are interested in this under powered device that is locked down.... Just let us buy the games on the platform we want like everyone else.

@Slannmage: It will be hacked within 3 months. Nintendo will never release games on the PC. They will fight emulation as hard as they can.

They are a very old Japanese company, they will always make their own hardware.

I agree they should take the Sega route, just release their games on other consoles, PC and mobile. They could make better games (more power so more range of games) I would bet they would be a lot more profitable in the long run.

All the R and D for new hardware, also manufacturing, with dev problems, it's a lot of work and cost.

Nintendo is too blind to see it.

@DavidinCT: and their recent victory over yuzu, could happen quicker now to new switch 2 emulator being taken down quicker.

as long as their hardware and software still making them profits.

their like apple, doing their own thing, plus they're still more successful than sega ever be.

the "switch" was the easiest platform to develop games for, just that the "switch" is extremely under power compared to xbox series x and ps5.

nintendo's fine the way they are, people are just too impatient.

@epitaph: that's how sega changed right? and if you want nintendo be to be like sega and go 3rd party, then nintendo have to made awful video games and hardware for a decade to decide to be a 3rd party developer for their software.

@nintendians: Victory? Really? More like bullied Yuzu, yea, the YUZU team messed up and the BIG N Bully threatened them. You shut down and we will not take you to court is pretty much the way it went. They were also raking in like $30K a month through Patrion. Maybe that is why Nintendo found them a target; I really wish they had the funds to tell the BIG N BULLY to get bent.

Wrecking Emulation damages innovation and preservation. In Nintendo's eyes, it should be 100% illegal and people who do it should be put to death. After what they have done to people over the years, I would not be shocked at someone at corporate actually thought that.

I am not talking a Switch 2 Emulator, YET, I am talking the hardware, all of any modern Nintendo system has been modded or hacked in some way. I give it 3-4 months after release for the "hackers" find I way to mod the system to allow even side loaded software....

Still the fact of the matter when the Switch came it out was a higher end cell phone CPU and with a better GPU, a phone 2 years later was faster and performed better (My s23 Ultra can emulate 85% of switch games fine).

People were talking 4K when it was doing 720p/1080p as released, just like the Wii, when PS3 and Xbox 360 did 1080p, Nintendo was doing 480p stuff that companies were doing 5 years before.

Nintendo would be smart to give up hardware and make their games for other systems. They would be more profitable (most consoles are sold are very low profit if not a loss), and they wouldn't have to worry about piracy much anymore (Xbox consoles have not been hacked and PS5 if you never updated it maybe).

I know Nintendo would never do it but, we could get better (4k+ games) and not be limited by old, outdated hardware.

Just like the Switch 2, I would bet it's outdated in hardware in 2-3 years...

@DavidinCT: it pretty much a victory, since yuzu emulator team is receiving money to make their emulator better and if your a patreon member of yuzu - you get a better version vs the public version of yuzu, also it still infringe on the copyright of the said game you play on it too - the thing is we don't own the game, it was licensed to us by the game company who made it. if yuzu emulator was built with their own money, i'm sure that be fine but having someone supporting by wasting their money on the emulator instead of the real thing is still a red flag - no matter what. i also doubt yuzu emulator team would tell nintendo to get lost without paying, mostly nintendo would either force them to pay a profit every yuzu emulator download and play their games on pc or go to court and shut the emulator down (which the 2nd option did happen).

well... nintendo has to protect their stuff, so can say much about since it's up to them to say what's legal and illegal to them.

yes, eventually it will get modded - but i heard every "switch" game has a unique id number, which nintendo could detect it - if you connect your "switch" online if even if you don't play online nintendo could banned your switch or your nintendo online account from going online. but yeah, most nintendo titles are mostly offline play.

the "switch" was using a mobile gpu since 2015 (nvidia shield android tv 1st gen., which uses the tegra x1) - that's like 9 years ago. your samsung galaxy s23 ultra just came out last year (2023) and of course it could run "switch" games, since "switch" games aren't high end like ps4 games would be. when the "switch" 2 is release it's might going to have a recent tegra made during the "geforce rtx 20 or 30 series" era and be closer to a ps4 or between a ps4 and ps4 pro and might feature some form of dlss, but if nintendo used a tegra made during the "geforce rtx 40 series", that'll maybe put it between a xbox one x to ps5 range and i doubt a samsung galaxy s24 would handle that by emulating or native port.

yeah, nintendo is lagging behind but they don't really care much about resolution much, since they mostly focus on gameplay mechanics and campaign stories which usually grab people towards it. even if nintendo built a console to meet what 3rd party wanted, some 3rd party would just half a$$ the port either bad graphics or bad control scheme for it.

that'll be a long time, if nintendo makes their games and hardware awful for decades like sega, then they might consider releasing on other platforms - until then that's still a "no" from nintendo.

yeah and true, if nintendo really want to risk it - they could make a home console that could rival the ps6 and next xbox console, better if the switch 2 dock could communicate with the "switch" 2 tablet - the switch 2 dock would have a 8 or 10 core cpu with nvidia geforce rtx 40 series laptop gpu with ai upscaling and internal ssd storage of 1 or 2tb. to store those high end textures and 3d models with 16 gb of ram, hdmi 2.1b for 4k120 or 8k60 and a gigabit ethernet port and sell the whole thing at $650 u.s. dollars vs ps5 pro price ($700 u.s. dollar), while the "switch" 2 just hold game data and save files for those game that can't run in handheld mode or runs low polygon 3d models like gamecube's 3d models and textures. so when you dock the "switch" 2 tablet into the dock, you get better frame rate at 4k120 and ai upscale original switch games at 8k (that is... you have a 8k60 tv or monitor to start with).

as of now, it probably is outdated by 2 to 3 years already. heard rumors that it uses either a tegra made during the "geforce rtx 20 series or 30 series" era, by that time the ps6 and the next xbox might be as power as a "geforce rtx 50 series" (lower end one).

@nintendians: To each their own, your allowed to "THINK" what you want. Everything you said was spoken like a true "Nintendo fanboi". I like Nintendo games but, some of their policies on retro games and fans really piss me off. I play everything on every console, so as I am Nintendo game fan, I am not a fanboi like yourself but, the company itself can suck it as far as I feel.

Nintendo would take every emulator down if they could do it BUT THEY CANT. Yuzu was a lucky break for them but, if they were not taking Patrion money, Nintendo would not have anything to stand on.... and when the number hit $30K and people paying could emulate new games over the free version, it's why they jumped. Nintendo is a big bully and will always be known as that.

Like I own games (a good size library) for pretty much every Nintendo system made but, Nintendo charges me to pay a monthly fee for the games I own. If I paid for them on the Wii, Nope, I need to pay again. I own them on the SNES, NOPE I need to pay again, I own them on the NES, Nope I need to pay again. We can go on and on how Nintendo charges people for games over and over. Do we want to discuss the portable games? Oh, wait they charge again for those. It really does go on and on.

Any game I own already, I will emulate and play on other hardware and REFUSE to repay for the game on another system, PERIOD.

I tried going online with the Switch and their system is bad compared to Xbox or even the weak PSN. Tried it on the Switch a few times and would not use it again, I did buy a 3 month package when I got my Switch. Only used it to play single player games till I played a few games where they dropped in the teens in framerates (Breath of the wild is one of them) and got more common in the later years, quality control sucks here. I gave up on their hardware, I still buy the games but, on my 8-year-old gaming PC with a 3070 (an older card now), they all run at 60fps or higher. Much more enjoyable experience.

The problem is if they make a mind-blowing console, faster than the PS6 or Xbox Series Z, it would be like $800+ and it would not sell at all, Nintendo consoles are appealing because they are fairly cheap compared to other consoles. This is good for them because they will sell but, they are weak, and people want to emulate them after a few years.

Again to each their own..... good luck on your very one-sided view.... by your username I can see that..

@DavidinCT: not starting a argument but that company are what they are.

nintendo just protecting what they own, nothing is wrong with that. if you and other people see as a bullying then that your thing.

that's good, but if your don't to rebuy a same game on a new system, then don't - no one is forcing you to do.

that's up to you, doesn't bother me.

okay, if you don't like then don't buy their online service.

nintendo don't have to match the ps6 or the next xbox, they could make it equal a ps5 pro or lower like the ps5 and it would still sell. if it was $800 u.s. dollars + then they would have market as 8k console and another other fancy marketing stuff.

i'm on no one side, if people can't handle what they don't own or got limited by official hardware, just don't buy their hardware and games - simple as that and pirate the stuff out of it.

@nintendians: See the problem is your view on it. Yuzu, Retroarch, Citra, etc didn't or does not pirate games, just like any other emulator (that is above board, I know there are questionable ones). There is no way in the software itself to link you to downloading the bios OR games.

They used NO NINTENDO code, did not mod or use part of Nintendo's systems, NO GAMES OR BIOS was included but, the big Nintendo BULLY STILL attacks them. They have tried to attack any and every emulator on the market. AGAIN, this software DOES NOT CONTAIN ANY OF NNINTENDO's code OR PRODUCT.

It was and is always up to the end user to access their own games and add their own BIOS or games. AGAIN, in case you can't read, THIS IS ALL UP TO THE USER, No emulator gives you direct links to games or bois needed to play the games.

This is innovation where someone tried to re-create in software that they love and your OK with Nintendo Attacking them and wrecking their lives, as Nintendo has done to some people.

And you still stand by Nintendo on this one..... LOL

They make some good games but, they suck as a company. Pirating their games is one thing but, attacking devs doing their own work is just wrong ANYWAY ABOUT IT.

I really hope one day they try to attack someone with a big wallet and sue the heck out of them for damages.

They are the ONLY company who makes video games who attacks devs, has Sega done this ? Atari ? Microsoft ? Sony ? Nope...

They will always be the BIG N BULLY...

@DavidinCT: emulator still give the user a means to play on a platform that the original owner didn't tended to, if they did - they would have put it on that platform. it's not legal emulate but have some to pay for it should be, since your not supporting the original. i'm fine if the emulator team did it with their own pocket money and not have people waste money for them to improve faster. also i didn't say anything about obtain the original bios or codes from the original system to use into a emulator, just say emulator infringe what the company went through to put games on the original hardware.

yes, it doesn't use any code or bios from nintendo's hardware but still able to run games made for the current system, kind of similar of how i feel about reverse engineering - it's pretty much taking someone's work and recoded to work on a certain platform.

of course, it's up to them - i'm not denying that either, either it's legal or not.

they could do it, getting money from others in some form is still illegal and why shouldn't nintendo stop it since those money could be help nintendo make more games, keeping their servers more updated and etc. again like i said they should do it with their own money and not accept others. yeah, it's going to take more time to do it but at least your doing at your own risk without outside help. i say patreon is at fault here too, they help set these things up, they route the money from paid customers and should have a rule saying that you or your team's original idea should not involved in letting others pay to use the latest software that could involved in emulating such as a current hardware and/or software intended for that original platform only.

what can i or we or the emulator team do, since they receiving money from outside sources to make improvements and also have patreon for paid members get to play and test out the latest version when nintendo do release a great game - i bet you not even half of those people didn't even bother to buy a "switch"/lite/oled and "zelda: tears of the kingdom" to play it together - they could use grab the latest yuzu emulator from those whom have the latest and the game and play on their pc - if their pc could handle it.

nintendo makes great game and company and if their not, they're won't be this generation making games and would file bankruptcy few generations ago.

not if it infringe on nintendo ips and/or copy the original codes or bios and nintendo is not that dumb as some people might think.

what well know devs. have nintendo attack? nintendo only attack those making profit off from their hardware without their knowledge and consent to them like a clone chip on the cartridge or these so call "devs." you call it - trying emulate the current nintendo hardware at 100%. sega, sony, atari, microsoft and etc. should be, but most too lazy get involve in, so they let it pass.

well... free stuff comes with a price and it's not the good kind "free".

@nintendians:We disagree on most of this. You still seem to think Emulators should not exist. MOST devs who make emulators do not make money on them. Maybe some do via ads or something but, direct money from people, most do not.

I am going to leave this one as we agree to disagree. I kind of feel like I am talking to a brick wall.

Please do not respond to any of my posts any more EVER. You will always get a flame from me going forward.

@DavidinCT: not during the current platforms, but later on like 15 to 20 years from then. if they don't make money on emulator then they should be using a starter or pateron then and do from their own money. didn't say most i said some like yuzu.

i agreed the same thing for you too.

Switch 1 looks like a toaster so by that logic Switch 2 gotta look like air fryer. :DDD

I expect Switch 2 to have 2 screens that can be combined and switched together for bigger and smaller size and making some games require you to look at 2 screens that shows 2 different things and may require you to rotate particular screens physically to solve puzzles by switching 2 different screens but some puzzles can be only solved by combining 2 screens to see it in "bigger picture".

Let's combine 2 joysticks to be able to press multiple buttons too!!! #MakeSwitchGreatAgain :DDD

Also let's combine Nintendo games too. For example release separate Mario and Luigi games in which to progress in Mario game first you gotta play Luigi game to help Mario by switching between games and thus you can access to another part of the game that you cannot access by playing without switching. This 2 screens idea can be used for these two different games that can be played separately from start to finish but it also allows you to have benefits in the other game.

2 different screens idea is good for multiplayer games too as it will allow mobile games to be played in local multiplayer without requiring you to have multiple same console. Parents don't wanna buy multiple consoles for each of their kids, especially when the kid is small. Siblings fighting for their turn to be able to play the video game console causing domestic crimes!!! :DDD

But this would be too much to expect from Nintendo. Technically they still releasing a Game & Watch. There was always a screen you could hold in your hand except for NES, SNES, N64, GameCube and Wii, but then Wii U released and Switch is pretty much the same shit lol. Since NDS era they using screen switch idea got bored fast. Now you can combine joysticks to screen but so what? No one cares about it and it's rather annoying. People I know who have Switch never uses that screen, they plug the console to the TV. Despite Switch has bigger size technically it's same shit as 3DS. Nintendo never improves. They just fooling people with sense of "difference" by using features pretty much not many people care about. Who cared about 3D screen, VirtualBoy and motion sensor joystick? This added nothing to the video game industry for the sake of fun. Even Switch looks like they using spare parts of Wii U just to not let all the screens and buttons go to waste lol. Switch wouldn't even sell this much if COVID and Animal Crossing didn't happen. Mario games would just keep Nintendo from bankruptcy as always did lol. Nintendo just using how traditional Japanese people are by spamming same shit as game and still make money. Just because I was curious the other day I checked Nintendo games from all generation they are all pretty much the same shit with little graphical difference. The game may be 3D but still it's still like 2D with worse sense of art and enjoyable graphics.

Long story short, Switch gotta be extraordinary or else there is no more Nintendo. I know they have ego masturbation over Switch sales because they were crying for the entire era of Wii and Wii U, so they will waste too much resources on Switch 2 with very tiny change but then naturally people will be like "no need to get it, let's wait for another Nintendo console" and then Nintendo will say "dai shippai shita" and embrace how shita they are. :DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

@everson_rm: I will admint it, the Wii U was a great system that suffered from the name and poor marketing. This is 100% Nintendo's fault.

The Wii was a fun system but, known by gamers to be the weakest console on the market. When the WiiU came out most people (even me for a while) thought it was a Wii part 2.... same old same old, the screen was a gimmick and was not marketed very well. The name killed it.

Once I got one cheap (because 1 game I had to play), I started grabbing games in the library and it was a really well-designed console that was a lot fun to play.

If you were wondering what game I had to play.....Super Mario 3-D land, played the 3DS version and loved it and had to play a console version of the game.

One of the best Super Mario games ever.....(I said one of)
