Nintendo Switch Eshop Adds A Bunch Of Games This Week

Stardew Valley, Axiom Verge, and more are out now.

It may be some time before we see the Eshop as busy as it was last week, when a whopping 18 games were released for Nintendo Switch. But the latest Eshop update is no slouch, bringing seven new games to the platform, with three more to arrive in the coming days. [Update: The first of those, Oxenfree, is out now.]

Most notably, as announced earlier this week, the Nintendo Switch version of Stardew Valley is finally available. Priced at $15/£11, the charming Harvest Moon-style game lets you create and tend to your own farm, get married, and generally relax. It seems like a perfect match with the portability of Switch, and it'll also be the first console version to receive Stardew Valley's upcoming multiplayer mode.

Those looking for something more action-oriented can pick up Axiom Verge, the acclaimed Metroidvania game, which costs $20/£15. Joining it is bloody 2D action game Volgarr the Viking ($10/£9), action-puzzle game Tumblestone ($15/£12), multiplayer beat-em-up Ninja Shodown ($15/£10), and the visually interesting side-scrolling shooter Earth Atlantis ($15/£13.49). There's also, of course, the obligatory ACA Neo Geo game; this time around, it's the delightful Metal Slug X ($8/£6.29).

Following all of this, the excellent adventure game Oxenfree ($20/£16) arrives on Friday, October 6. And you can look forward to at least two games during the early part of next week, with one-on-one shoot-em-up Touhou Kobuto V: Burst Battle ($30) and 2D action-platformer Tiny Barbarian DX ($30) releasing on October 10. The month's big release, Super Mario Odyssey, is coming up on October 27.

Great games to add to my Switch library! Already have Stardew Valley for my PC, but will double dip for Stardew Valley on the Go.

Retro, retro, retro, retro... And wait - more retro games. The eShop is the dumping ground now for every random retro/mobile indie game ever created.

@agramonte: Is that a bad thing? I stopped playing Stardew Valley on my PC because I wanted a portable version. Loving it on my Switch so far.

We have Mario this month, Doom coming, Skyrim and many many more. Not to mention Steam Dig World 2 right now which is really fun.

Sounds like you are mis-informed.

@jkendt1989: it is when you get itons of this stuff... You think everyone is into pixel art retro games. Mario is not till the very end of the month. Hopefully Sonic is good and Xenoblade in december. Those who want to wait - hopefully BattleChasers soon (at least an Indie that is not the 100th retro game in a row)

Why am I paying 60 dollars for a low res DOOM with a joke online service?. That will be as big of a fail as $60 Fifa 18 was on Switch. People keep thinking "i can take it on the go" Will make us pay 60 for whatever. The same with Skyrim... Not buying it for a 3rd time At 60 bucks.

Na, im informed enough To know these games are not the best use of my limited gaming time. I rather play Hob or cuphead at home. I use my Switch when it is worth my time.

@agramonte: Dude stop acting as if you speak for everyone. Mobile gaming is bigger than console gaming, and many people who love to play games like DOOM, Skyrim and more on the go. Why would i buy a PS4, and play games like Destiny 2 at 30fps checkerboarding 4K? lol Please i can do that too. Switch is a fantastic console to play AAA games on the go. I have a PC for my main platform, but i will double dip for games like DOOM on the go, because i am away from my house a good bit. So are most people.. Like it or not, but these games are gonna do really well on Switch. You informed enough to know YOU won't use it, but clearly not enough to know that many others will like it. Which is why the Switch keeps outselling the PS4 every month, even more so in its home in Japan. Sales of Shovel Knight, Stardew Valley, and more does show many people are into pixel styled games. I would choose pixel art over dull "realistic" brown grey looking games anyday.

@pcgameboy: Hahahaha... most people on Steam have what I have a 1080p monitor and the best selling card is what I have - a GTX1060. Most of us are not running 4K60fps jack on PC - save the spec BS for the people who have no rig. Tt is outselling a system out for 4 years and already has 60 million units on the market? and on schedule to sell 16 million this year - hahahaha!... no really try again. Go play the AAA "on the go" mess FIFA is on the Switch... good luck with that.

And we live in a "connected" gaming world. The only good part about it on the Switch was the good laugh we all had when I built my 6 dollar wire crap show for the Switch so called "online service"... lol!

https://www.gamespot.com/images/1300-3288478/

Wait, did you just drop an old rehashed Shovel Knight we played on the 3DS 2 years ago as a game sample for the Switch? Yeah, I did not care about your pixel junk when I was playing Zelda or HellBlade or when I'll be playing Xenoblade2 or Battle front 2 (online with all my college friends I don't get to see) in a few months.... or NinoKuni2, MH World in January. And neither will MOST people. Retro games are "fill"... the stuff you play in between actual game launches if you only have 1 system.

@agramonte: A GTX 060 can play tons of games at 4K 30fps, and some at 60fps, more than the PS4 can which is 99% checkerboarding 4K 30fps.. ( My PC is much more powerful)This year was said to be one of the best selling years for the PS4, and Switch is still outselling it. Also compared to the first 6 months of sales for PS4 in Japan, the Switch is selling DOUBLE what it did. The Switch is also outselling the Wiii month to month. The PS4 first year of world sales may still be slightly more the what the Switch will get, but not by that much, and the Switch looks to outsell everything this holiday. Fifa isn't a "mess" on the Switch it works perfectly fine, it's just not as good looking as the PS4, and XB1, but most causl gamers (that make up most of the market) does not care about that. Most will choose portability over visuals.

Won't deny that the online service/voice chat right now is crap for Switch, but its only been 6 months, and can improve. The first year for the Xbox 360 was RROD, at least its nothing near as bad as that. and 360 improved over time, so i am sure the Switch can too. XB1 had a DRM, Kinect, and other crap that cause people to be pissed at them their first year too, but they fixed it. Stop acting like all of this can't be improved in a year or so..

Battlefront 2, Ni No Kuni 2, MH World, i will play on my PC, don't need a PS4 for that. And a lot of people clearly do care for pixel styled games because many of them sell very well, and re rated very well. You seem very salty over the fact that not everyone actually has taste in games like you. I can play those games, and the pixel games as well. lol You're so sad that you don't actually have any arguments, but just some subjective crap about visual style.

In the end you have no argument, the sales prove that many are loving the Switch, and many do care for portability. Games like DOOM, Wolf 2, and Skyrim will undoubtedly sell very well, and once that happen the Switch will get even more 3rd party support. 3rd party games like these will not look as good as the Xb1, and PS4 version, but many will not care.

@pcgameboy: A GTX1060 is not a 4K card. Even at 2560X1440 it starts to chug. I'm also not sure how many people would trade FPS for Resolution. Regardless, like most on steam - I only have a 1080P screen. No it is not - look at their annual report. And my point still stands - it already broke the 63mill mark. The PS4 is a success one way or the other. FIFA18 Switch is only 1%of UK launch sales, 12K in Japan and not in the top 100 at Amazon in the States. Most casual gamers do not pay $60 dollars for a game. And FIFA fans not paying $60 for a gimped handheld game.

The xbox 360 came out in 2005, it is 2017... The Switch is not even at VITA levels. Yes, they need to fix it - it should not even have launched in this state.

And I am Playing Wolfenstein 2 on my PC. It is $37 dollars

https://www.cdkeys.com/pc/games/wolfenstein-ii-2-the-new-colossus-pc-steam-cd-key

and I can play it at Max settings at 1080p@60fps with full Keyboard and Mouse support and I know what online look like on Steam (I'll play Mario on my commute). Don't need/want a $60 console controller Switch port sometime in 2018 for that.

Nonsense, you were the one who jumped on my post with the random comment. I enjoyed Cosmic Star Heroine as much as the next guy... but this is a retro avalanche ( for some of us "retro" is a PS1). Wonder Boy, Battle Chasers, Plague Road, Flipping Death, Hollow Knight, Shantae, A hat in time and many other eShop games on the go is what will make the Switch stand out... not a weekly 25 year old NeoGeo game code dump. Some of this stuff not even wide screen.

@agramonte: A GTX 1060 is more of a 4K card than the PS4 Pro, and Xbox X.. PS4 Pro has been beaten by the GTX 980ti.. PS4 Pro can't even run games like Assassins Creed Origin at 4K.. It has a lowered resolution. Xbox X is using checkerboarding 4k for that game too, and i bet the 1060 can run at least nativer 4K 30fps.

I never said the PS4 was a failure, or anything like that, what i am saying is that comparing the Switch to the first year of the PS4, and XB1, its beating them in some months, and even more so in japan. NBA2K18 looks to be doing well and has been at the top of the Eshop in Switch for a while now. It just recently dropped a bit with the release of Stardew Valley (oh year a pixel game), because the game is good. All support is great, and games like Golf Story is selling very well too, and scored well as a pixel game. Just because it has a retro pixel style (which can still look good if done right), doesn't mean it can't be a fun game, or more fun than some AAA game, because it can.

As for Fifa, the UK is the country that buys the least amount of Nintendo devices. 3DS has more sales than the PS4, but its sales in the UK, has never been that good. So saying it didn't sell well in the UK is no surprise.. With Switch getting access to China's market, with the help of that developers that makes the Moba, it could bring Nintendo a whole new massive market to get sales from. Which then could give it even more games, and support.

I am playing Wolfenstien 2 first on PC as well, but i will also be double dipping for it on the Switch version to play on the go. The portability is a massive pro for the Switch, and many would like to play these games on the go as well. WHat do you mean the not in the Vita levels? You mean like Online service? That i would agree. Everything else it beats the Vita by a wide margin, and its not even a full year. It has bigger 3rd party support, better exclusives, more powerful, and looks to get more indie support as well.

Online is something that has evolved over time for all the consoles.. Nintendo is starting a bit late with it, but they are most likely working on it now before their paid access begins. Many are talking about them bringing achievements to their games as well, which is awesome. I think it was the perfect time for them to release the Switch, because they had the whole summer to sell, and come out with games.. With no holiday games, and systems getting int he way. Online can be upgraded and improved now that the console is out.

What the hell? Axiom Verge is already on the eShop but the physical version doesn't arrive until a month later? Oh well... guess I have time to play more games. Speaking of which, I'll probably get Stardew Valley today and start it to see what all the fuss is about.
