Nintendo Switch EShop Adds Two More Games Today

Minecraft and fighting.

Following the release of NBA Playgrounds earlier this week, two more digital games launch on the Nintendo Switch eShop today.

Today's big addition is Minecraft. Priced at $30, it features local and online multiplayer support as well as Mario-inspired skins, as you can see in the image gallery below. It launches later today in the US, at 6 PM PT / 9 PM ET. It launches in the UK tomorrow, May 12, for £20.

Now Playing: GS News Update: Nintendo Switch EShop Adds Two More Games Today

No Caption Provided

The other release is another ACA Neo Geo game, Garou: Mark of the Wolves. Like many of the other ACA titles we've seen on Switch, it's a 2D fighting game. This one was originally released in 1999 and features two-player multiplayer support. It's available on the eShop now for $8/£6.29, and you can check out some screenshots of it in the gallery above, alongside Minecraft.

The eShop got a welcome upgrade recently, as it now allows users to store their credit card information. Previously, you had to enter it every time you made a new purchase, unless you were willing to add credit to your digital wallet on the system.

We've seen a fairly constant trickle of games released on the Switch eShop since the system's debut in early March, although Minecraft--despite being a port--is one of the biggest releases to date. Nintendo's next big game release, barring some E3 surprise, is the quirky game Arms, which launches on June 16. That will then be followed by Splatoon 2 on July 21, with games like Super Mario Odyssey and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 coming later this year.

Nintendo today announced its specific plans for E3, which include a series of streams starting on June 13.

@indojimbo: Anything on Nintendo's store was and still is overpriced.
We can't expect anything good from their store...That's how it's always been!

I did hope they'd have some rebates on rotation and have some ports going for cheap but even some very simple ports for the Switch are going for almost 20$.
We paid more than we should to get a decent console to be able to take some fun games on the run and now we have to pay more than we should to buy these games as well.

Fool me once, Fool me twice eh?

So far I'm not impressed with Nintendo and have a very bad feeling for the Switch's future.
It'll be nothing more than a portable Wii U.

I enjoy my switch but I do cause I have a PS4 and Xbox One as "Main" consoles.
I can't figure people getting the Switch as their only game console and being satisfied with that...
One thing's for sure, this game here (NBA Playgrounds) is the first straw convincing me to stick to my PS4 for multiplatform titles.

@indojimbo:

Minecraft was 20$ on the PS4. If it has a physical release that is probably the reason the price is higher. If not, maybe the Nintendo content brings up the price?

I almost want to get NBA Playgrounds, but it just doesn't sound good enough.

@JustPlainLucas: Don't get it for Switch unless you NEED to have it "On the go".

The graphics are blurry/washed out, loading are waay too long...
The feedback feature is annoying and even loud in handheld mode and CAN'T be turned off. (Which might even make it a battery hog)

This game is a 1st "3rd party" to get released on all consoles and to be honest, if it is to be used as a standard, it's so far off below the other consoles quality that it makes me worry about the Switch future and its ability to play 3rd party games in a decent way!

I tought the Switch would become my "Go-To" console for the fact that I can carry it easily and all but as soon as a game is even a bit demanding, it seems to get radical downgrades visually.

Looking at this, the "Gameboy" doesn't seem so far away...

If I knew that I would've got it for the PS4 instead...

I guess the switch won't be the console where nintendo convince us that they can handle 3rd party... I'll stick to the plan I had with the Wii U which is to keep Nintendo consoles for 1st party exclusives only.

@silv3rst0rm: Ehh, from what I've seen the Switch version of NBA is less washed out than its PS4 counterpart...

@silv3rst0rm:

NBA Playgrounds isn't the first third party release for Switch that is on all consoles (Lego City Undercover and Snake Pass were first), but they shouldn't have released it in the state it is.

@doctor_mg: You're right, and now that you mention it, I found Lego City Undercover to have some very unconsistant frame rates on the switch and felt like it wasn't running smoothly.

I rented the game and played it about 20 minutes.
To a point where I almost felt dizzy/sick at the lack of fluidity and told myself that if I was to play this game, it would/will be on PS4.

So it's 2 strikes against the switch on 3rd party games...

@silv3rst0rm: I agree with you 100% on NBA Playgrounds. I opted to get it on the Switch since I wanted another game to play on it, but you can see right from the jump how washed out it is. The game seems like a lot of fun, blending NBA Jam and NBA Street, but it just doesnt do it for me. There are a few things that could have been done better, like Shooting, and Rebounding. You will miss so many shots, and layups from being "Late", but there is no feedback anywhere to let you know when the optimal time to release the shot is. Rebounding is stupid becuase there is no momentum when you jump. Its like you jump straight up and down, so if you are waiting for a rebound, and it comes off the rim a little bit to the left or right, youre not getting it.

@imegajohn: Yeah I noticed that bad rebounding too!

It's as if the "Jump" was just a canny/static animation that will grab the ball if you just happen to pass through it.

NBA Jam / Street made it so that the jump animation sort of took you towards the ball making it more a question of timing your jump better than your opponent while the game did the rest for you and it was perfect that way.

It looked much less awkward.

Maybe they just ported the game to the switch in haste to have it on all platform at the same time and will optimize it better via patches... (I do hope so).

After all, Mario Kart 8 has much better graphics and can load larger maps with much more details in like 10 seconds.

Can't see why a little 2 on 2 basketball game in a very little ballpark be so blurry and take almost a minute long to load...

Let's just hope that this game is a sign of things to come for the switch cause if multiplatform games looks this deceiving on Switch I fear they'll be doomed on 3rd party support just like the Wii U.
