2018 marks the 40th anniversary of retro video game company SNK, and to commemorate the milestone, the studio is compiling some of its classic titles together into one package for Nintendo Switch. During a panel at PAX East 2018, SNK announced the SNK 40th Anniversary Collection, an anthology of games from the company's "golden days" set to launch later this year.

The SNK 40th Anniversary Collection is being handled by Digital Eclipse, the studio behind the Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection and the Disney Afternoon Collection. It features more than a dozen classic SNK games from the pre-Neo Geo era, many of which are represented in both console and arcade versions. The list of announced titles thus far includes:

Like Digital Eclipse's other retro game compilations, the SNK 40th Anniversary Collection features a suite of modern conveniences, including save states, a rewind function, updated control schemes, and more. SNK says it is also planning to introduce other classic games to the collection as free post-launch updates.

The SNK 40th Anniversary Collection launches for Nintendo Switch this fall. During the same panel, SNK also announced a release date for its upcoming fighting game, SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy. That title will arrive for Switch and PS4 this September.

SNK Heroines features an all-female cast drawn from past SNK titles, including Kula Diamond, Mai Shiranui, and the newly revealed Shermie. Unlike most of SNK's other fighting games, Heroines boasts a two-on-two tag system, with both of your characters sharing a single health bar.

"Even for other tag battle games, it's got a few interesting differences, such as the fact that both characters share a health gauge, so it means that you can't just throw them back in the background and let them heal or anything," game director Kaito Soranaka told GameSpot through a translator. "Also, they don't share the spirit gauge, so a lot of the strategy comes from managing your gauge and your meter consumption."

SNK Heroines launches on September 7. The game will be available at retail and on the Eshop on Switch; the standard version will only be available digitally on PS4, but fans will be able to pick up a physical limited edition copy from NIS America's online store. SNK Heroines was first unveiled during Nintendo's January 2018 Direct presentation. You can take a look at some footage from the game above.
