Nintendo Switch Officially Getting Shin Megami Tensei 5 In The West
SMT V is also coming to North America and Europe.
Earlier this year, Atlus teased that a new Shin Megami Tensei game was in development for Nintendo Switch. Last month, it revealed it as the next core entry in the series, Shin Megami Tensei V. We've now learned that game is officially on the way to the West.
The announcement of SMT V was entirely in Japanese. This left open the possibility that it would not be localized outside of Japan, though that would have been a surprise. Atlus has now confirmed the expected, stating that a western release is planned for the RPG. It also shared an English version of that same reveal trailer from last month, which you can check out above.
Atlus's announcement simply states the game is coming to the "West." The publisher has since confirmed with GameSpot that it will be released in both North America and Europe. A price and release date have not yet been announced.
We don't yet know much about SMT V, beyond the fact that it will be set in modern Tokyo, as is always (at least partially) the case with games in the series. The press release states that "players will face a new onslaught of demons in the latest from the highly acclaimed series."
There's been no indication so far that SMT V will come to any platform besides Switch. Recent entries, including Shin Megami Tensei IV and IV: Apocalypse, were only released on 3DS. That system is set to get a new game called Shin Megami Tensei: Deep Strange Journey, which is an updated version of Strange Journey, early next year.
