Nintendo Switch Reveal Teased a New Mario Game
A new 3D Mario platformer may be in the works.
An array of games were shown running on the Nintendo Switch during its reveal trailer, including things like Splatoon and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. But there was also a glimpse of what might be the next entry in the Mario series.
Around the 2:11 mark of the video, a woman is seen playing a 3D Mario platformer. One scene shows Mario jumping through a town in the desert, while another (also set in the desert) has Mario running along a platform and avoiding a Bullet Bill.

Nintendo's accompanying press release made no specific mention of the game--or any other. "Today's video incorporated short glimpses of representative gameplay to demonstrate the liberating nature of the Nintendo Switch home gaming system," it stated. "Full game demonstrations, the list of launch window titles, as well as launch date, price, product configuration, and related specifics, will be shown and announced prior to the March launch."
Tech demos were shown with the Wii U that never came to fruition. It's possible the Mario segment today was merely designed as a demonstration or a promise to fans that there will be new Mario content on the platform. But it also could be that this is our first look at the next Mario.

Switch is slated for launch sometime in March 2017. Nintendo also today announced a list of third parties bringing software to the system.
