Nintendo Switch System Update Out Now, Here Are The Patch Notes

The new 20.1.0 update makes some small tweaks to the interface to better match the upcoming Switch 2.

Ahead of the Switch 2's launch next week, Nintendo has rolled out a new system update for the original Switch. This one is much smaller than the 20.0.0 update released last month, but it makes some notable visual and audio changes to bring the interface in line with the system's upcoming successor.

As detailed in Nintendo's patch notes, the new 20.1.0 update tweaks the look of the home screen's Parental Control settings button, changing the color from orange to red. On top of that, the sound that plays when launching the Nintendo Switch Online menu has also been changed, now matching the same sound that plays on the Switch 2.

Rounding out the update, Nintendo has also made its usual assortment of "system stability improvements to enhance the user's experience." You can read the full patch notes for the 20.1.0 update below.

That isn't the only new update to arrive in preparation for the Switch 2. Nintendo has also released a 2.0.7 patch for Animal Crossing: New Horizons, marking the first update the game has received since November 2022. This new patch "improved the compatibility for multiplayer sessions between Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch."

The Nintendo Switch 2 launches around the world on June 5. Despite that, it seems the system has already gotten into some people's hands, although it reportedly prompts users to "Please connect to the internet and update your system" when booted.

The Switch 2 system on its own retails for $450, while a bundle with Mario Kart World runs for $500. The latter, however, will only be produced until Fall 2025. For more on the upcoming console, check out our roundup of everything we know about Switch 2.
