Nintendo has announced an exclusive Wii U bundle for its UK online store.

Described as the Mario Mega Bundle, the bundle costs £299.99 and includes a Wii U Premium, New Super Mario Bros. U, and New Super Luigi U. A copy of the upcoming Super Mario 3D World is also included.

The pack also includes a Mario-themed Wii Remote Plus and your very own real-life Mario hat, despite 2013 being Nintendo's Year of Luigi.

"This is a dazzlingly inventive game that brings the fun in spades," wrote Mark Walton in GameSpot's Super Mario 3D World review, "and will leave you grinning like a loon from start to finish."

The bundle will be released on November 29, the same day as Super Mario 3D World is released in the UK.

If it came with a Luigi hat, they'd have made a sale.

You disappointed me again, Nintendo.

I think with limited edition ones, Nintendo's trying to avoid people buying the system them selling it off at a premium, so including the game digitally helps prevent that apparently.

that's a really good bundle, but seeing most of the comments going on about specs this, specs that.

going back a few gens no one cared about specs, all anyone cared about was the games.

Sure there were mentions of whether its 16bit, 32bit, blast processing and so on but it still boiled down to the games being the main attraction. After all back then it would be only the geekiest of gaming geeks who would know the exact spec of each console.

I don't roughly know when the focus to specs happened but it was around about gen 6. to begin with all that most folk knew about the ps2 was the emotion engine and some may possibly known of the 128bit cpu but that was it until around about the original xbox when I started to notice spec charts all over the place.

so whats the point to all this then, well in the end its not the specs that make the console its the games. you could shove in as much power as you want in a console but that doesn't guarantee a better gaming experience.

@liquidsolid Going back a few generations, almost everyone cared about the specs. The Bit Wars didn't happen for no reason.

@AdderD @liquidsolid i know full well about the bit wars (its briefly mentioned above) but there is one difference between then and now which is back then folk didn't bicker about the the frequency of the cpu nor how many cores or the amount of shared L2/L3 cache available to each core, nor did they go on about how many GFLOPs the console's gpu can do or the amount of shaders available, nor anything about the amount and/or type of ram and so on.

back then it was only about bits, with all arguments being about a 16bit console being better than an 8bit console but even there the games still played an integral part in debating which console was better unlike most of the arguments now where its moved towards what has the largest/fastest ram inside.

@liquidsolid I actually decided against X1 and PS4 for now--I'll get one in a year or so. I'm tired of grind games. I don't have enough time to play enough to unlock stuff, and I don't feel like buying into microtransactions in order to get the unlockable stuff. So...I think I'm gonna pick up a Wii U in a month or so.

@liquidsolid Hate to say it, but as long as I been gaming, there has always been a war on specs. From 8 bits, to 16 bits, to 32 bits. Then it became a war on disc space, from CDs, to DVD, to Blu-Rays. Now its all about 1080 and FPS. If the internet would have been out during the Nintendo/Sega era, we would be just as bad as today. Just being realistic here.

They still are, the difference is that back then, SEGA and Sony were going at the same pace as Nintendo, but when SEGA dropped out and Microsoft entered, that's when the competition decided to take a huge leap forward and Nintendo recognized that there's no way they could keep up without putting their company in danger of going bankrupt.

Actually the N64 was better spec wise, the Playstation's format just gave it an advantage memory wise.

For me personally, I don't care about the specs, yes they're important when creating games but all I want are fun and interesting games and so far, all of the exclusive games coming out on the PS4/XBoxOne are games that care more about showing off the power of those systems rather than being fun games with interesting new concepts. At least the Wii U's exclusives at launch focused more on the system's new features rather than trying to show off how much more powerful it is than the PS3/360.

Wii Motion Plus is supported on the Wii U, many of the multiplayer games make use of the Wii Motes still. Pretty much every Wii accessory is compatible with the Wii U.

That's a ripoff. And releasing a handicapped console on the same launch window as two other juggernauts from the competition isn't a very good idea either.

They really have got to step it up if they want to improve sales this holiday season.

@gameroutlawzz If you're talking about graphics, my GTX 690/3930k have got everything covered just fine on that end.

Consoles are about exclusive games, not performance or top of the line graphics. You should know better than that if you really play on a PC.

Indeed, despite the Wii U not being as powerful, just like the Wii, as long as it gets a great deal of exclusives, that's all I care about, and really, I'm not one to buy like 3-5 games every month, at most I tend to buy 2 a month and I always get games that'll last me a long time, which I've found more on Nintendo's systems as well as Japanese 3rd parties (mainly JRPGs).

@abHS4L88 That's good to know. I really hope they do well. Even though I wish more third party publishers would make better use of the gamepad. I honestly think that is the one trumph card the Wii U has to stand out.

You can't expect multiplatform games to really take advantage of the hardware (due to development costs and time), Ubisoft seems to be the only one who cares enough, but 3rd party exclusives are important and the Wii U does need more of that.

Right now, Nintendo is making sure their flagship franchises are coming out first to stimulate sales, it makes sense to come out with the more niche or less popular franchises to be released after the system has sold a significant amount of units. Games like "X", Bayonetta 2, Fire Emblem X Shin Megami Tensei, that Yarn Yoshi game, as well as a new IP from Miyamoto are currently in development.

@abHS4L88 I mean they need more than Zelda and Mario to highlight the Wii U. Dead Rising and Killzone are franchises that aren't nearly as old or established as Zelda, Metroid, or Mario. Not just refinements, but drastic changes.

Pikmin is relatively new and is getting there, but they need more than that to make the Wii U more attractive. Third party exclusives and more multiplatform titles that take advantage of the gamepad would be a great start to that.

What do you mean? The new Super Mario game is looking excellent, showcasing a variety of creative ideas while A Link Between Worlds (like GameStop declared) successfully brings Zelda back to its roots while breathing new life into the established formula. Most of their other franchises also tend to see significant changes with each new entry.

Also what "unlike the PS4/XBoxOne?" games like KillZone Shadow Fall and Dead Rising 3 aren't getting great critical reception due to the lack of creative ideas and great changes to the gameplay, it's essentially a pretty and/or bigger version of the previous games.

@abHS4L88 Unlike the PS4 and Xbox One, Nintendo's problem isn't with the WiiU's game library, but with breathing new life into their franchises. More doesn't always mean better in that case.

What's really the point of getting both the XBoxOne and PS4 both at launch? When it comes to exclusives, Nintendo has more of that compared to the other 2 and while Sony's usually the one with more exclusives, right now the XBoxOne has more, albeit right now, none of the exclusives for either system are looking like good reasons to pick up the consoles.

@Death_Masta187 I was referring to the popularity and sales. Most people can't afford to own all three systems within the same season, so they have to make a choice. Thus, the big three do have to compete amongst themselves to get the crowd's attention.

Nintendo seems to be having a hard time to do so. That's it.

They are doing what they do best. Putting out an expensive console is not what they're about. Think about it this way, for $300, you're getting essentially 3 games and don't have to worry about paying for online, with the PS4, you still have to buy a game as well as paying for PS+.

Now that's a very nice bundle. Including Super Mario 3D World and the Mario Wiimote, plus a little hat for good measure, is a great touch.
