Nintendo's NX Might Have Another Confirmed Game

It sounds like Dragon Quest XI could come to Nintendo's next console.

We don't have any solid details on Nintendo' next console, the NX, other than a handful of its upcoming games, and it sounds like another one has been confirmed. In an interview with Nintendo Dream magazine (via Gematsu), series creator Yuji Horii said that Dragon Quest XI would come to the NX.

Super Smash Bros. director Masahiro Sakurai asked if the upcoming Dragon Quest would release on PS4, 3DS, and NX simultaneously, to which Horii replied, "That's right." He added that "the use of hardware is different for each system, so [development] is quite a challenge."

Now Playing: GS News Update: Dragon Quest XI Officially Announced for PS4, 3DS, and NX

Although it sounds like a confirmation, it's important to note that Hori originally announced an NX version when Dragon Quest XI was revealed. After this news, publisher Square Enix backpedalled and said it was "under consideration" for the mysterious console. Dragon Quest X is also being considered for the next Nintendo console.

In addition to saying it's coming to the NX, Horii spoke of the 3DS version of the game, which features both 2D and 3D styles of gameplay. You can see screenshots of both the 3DS and PS4 versions here.

Dragon Quest XI has no set release date in North America. Nintendo's NX is slated for a worldwide March 2017 launch, and if all three versions will actually release simultaneously, it's reasonable to believe it won't launch until then.

@darkouer: DQ heros had nothing to do with the Main DQ games it was a crappy spinoff also DQ has pretty good sales numbers in the usa

@darkouer: japan alone can no longer sustain enough sales for AAA console games. japanese developers NEED the west to break even and turn a profit. i guarantee dq xi will make it to the west. dragon quest builders is also coming over in the fall. by the way, what were the sales of dq heroes? i don't think it has been reported... a sequel is already deep into development so things sound just fine.

@Xristophoros: Well I have only seen figures for steam version, but at the retailers I visit more often, they had many copies all the time and they heavily discounted it after 6 months of its release to half normal price,, since then it has gone down in price. That certainly cannot be a good signal. Hopefully Nintendo will publish the 3DS and NX versions themselves, as with DQ VII and VIII

@darkouer: s-e is known to drop its prices pretty heavily after the first few months of release. 50% discount after 6 months is common practice for most games.... exceptions to this rule is obviously gta v among others which have so much demand the price can be left alone. for a new ip, i'm sure dq heroes sold well enough otherwise they wouldn't have gone ahead with the sequel. considering dq xi is apparently launching summer 2017, we should hear some news soon. maybe even at tgs next month.

So far the sequel has only been released in Japan and other Asia markets, and I have not heard of a possible release in the American continent. But hopefully you are right.

Assuming Dragon Quest XI does comes to NX, I'll just buy the NX version over the PS4 version just so how the NX plays out and if the whole portable handheld is real, I can play Dragon Quest XI anywhere I go for that matter.
