No Dead Space 3 on Wii U

Visceral Games vice president says there are currently no plans to bring upcoming horror-action game to Nintendo's new console.

Dead Space 3 will not scare Wii U gamers. Visceral Games vice president and general manager Steve Papoutsis said via Twitter recently that there are no plans to bring the upcoming horror action game to Nintendo's forthcoming high-definition console.

Dead Space 3 is not in the cards for the Wii U.
Dead Space 3 is not in the cards for the Wii U.

Responding to a question regarding the possibility of Dead Space 3 coming to the Wii U and making use of the system's tablet-like GamePad, Papoutsis responded bluntly with, "Not currently in the plan."

Dead Space 3 is not the only high-profile game planning to skip the Wii U, which is due for a worldwide release this holiday season. Capcom's new shooter Resident Evil 6 will not appear on Nintendo's upcoming console and neither will 2013's Tomb Raider reboot.

Dead Space 3 was officially announced last week during the 2012 Electronic Entertainment Expo following heavy speculation. The game sees series hero Isaac Clarke return, but this time he will have help in the form of co-op partner John Carver. Together, players will battle Necromorphs on a new ice planet called Tau Volantis. For more on the project, check out GameSpot's E3 2012 stage show demo with Visceral Games.

I would buy the game twice. Once for WiiU and once for Xbox. They could get alot of money out of me yet are passing up the opportunity.

Still not enough third parties on board with Wii U to make it appealing to the hardcore.

I'm going to take this opportunity to say that I don't give a shit about Dead Space 3. Co-op is the worst thing to ever happen to survival horror.

The console didn't even came out and third parties are already backing out. It already seems like nintendo will be the only one making good stuff, as they always did, so no revolution here.

Good. Nintendo doesn't deserve first class titles like dead space anyways.

Easy: It wouldn't sell enough on the Wii U. I'm sure there would be some people that would pick it up, but not close to the numbers the publisher is looking for. No one who has played the first two games has played them on a Nintendo console. Speaking from personal experience, there's a tendency to stick with the console you started on. Meaning if you started the series on the PS3/Xbox/PC, you aren't likely to buy the third installment on the Wii U. Also, Nintendo users don't have any vested interest in the series. A user that only has a Wii console to game with will be coming into the series without any attachment to the story or its characters. So the pool of interested buyers gets even smaller.

@rogue81 Still AC3 and Mass Effect 3 are coming for the console. Will be pretty tough to follow the storyline on ME then.

@ilantis Those games will have the same problem. Especially Mass Effect 3. The earlier entries affect what happens in 3. They'll probably have an interactive comic that will get Wii U users up to speed, but at this point anyone who was interested in the series has probably found a way to play it.

I'll be getting all of those games for the 360 anyway (well... DS3 depending... looks kinda more like a generic action game), but I wonder what the reason is for it not coming to the Wii U? I don't think it would be exclusivity, and they have the option for classic control with the Wii U, so I have to wonder if it's an issue with the power of the console. Hmm.

@Sombro89 It's not a power issue, since there is literaly no way to make a weaker console than the PS3/360, they've got 6/7 year old tech in them. It's a risking issue. There have been no other Dead Space games on any Nintendo systems before, apart from the spin-offs, so the majority wouldn't have interest in the title.

@LongJohnSlivers no offence, but I wrote an interesting reply to that website... the reply was not hateful or stupid. It was well articulated, without hateful words, and to some parts of the reply I was actually agreeing with some of the points. The moderator never even bother to post it on its website.....so, yeah, it is "nice" when you control what goes in and out on the blog, looking like whoever post something totally agrees with what its written.

I'm not trying to sound like a butthurt troll saying ''Well if they don't want to make it for me I never wanted it to begin with!!!1!1!!!111!'' , but really I don't know of any games ''announced to not be on the system'' , Dead Space 3 is losing anything that made it unique to begin with. I didn't really care too much about Tomb Raider to begin with. Metro Last Light was about the only game I actually was more than indifferent about not being on the wii-u.

I got news for you, buddy, the other consoles that Dead Space 3 will be appearing on are already out, and are less powerful than the Wii U. So your comment makes no sense.

@Crimson_Erskine @moviequest14 Are you kidding me? Dead Space 3 has co-op. Horror games don't have co-op, unless it's in multipleyer, it's a nono in the campaign part. EA and Visceral just fucked up by making a co-op horror game. They should've stopped at Dead Space 2.

BTW, the Wii U is one of the better consoles, if you look at it hardware wise, even if it's just a marginal difference.

Hey, GameSpot and bad Wii U news, who would have guessed that would happen?

Here are some couple, sorry, dozen good news. GameSpot, you suck at journalism.

http://mynintendonews.com/2012/06/15/final-fantasy-creator-working-on-a-wii-u-game/

@TCMOREIRA Don't thank me, thank the editors over at My Nintendo News, they are making a much better job at making news articles than GameSpot, they even post some news about things that have no relation to Nintendo whatsoever, like the TimeSplitters 4 facebook project, I guess they're doing that because the title might appear on the Wii U, or other Nintendo hardware. I think I've even seen some news about the 720/Durango and PS4/(Orbis is bullshit, Sony always uses PlayStation as the codename.)PlayStation on there.

Wow, EA of all companies touting the prospect of new IPs? That's cool. And this isn't the first time I've heard developers or publishers talk about how they can't launch a new IP this late in the console cycle. Hadn't really thought about that before, but I suppose it makes sense.

That black tablet controller looks dead sexy, too.

@joujou264 Not trying to be a complete pain. But a site with "Nintendo" name on the URL is bound to show only good news about it... That doesn't mean the Wii U itself is good or bad.

But i agree on one thing. Gamespot is decreasing the quality of it's articles... It's just like Faith said. "It's not news anymore, it's just advertising"

@Raxyman

"But a site with 'Nintendo' name on the URL is bound to show only good news about it..."

That certainly is the natural reaction, and while that might even be the case, the fact is that the site is reporting information from various sources. Whether or not the information is reliable is based on the sources themselves, and has nothing to do with the name of the site. Just because a site is a fan site does not mean its information is unreliable. To assume so is a logical fallacy.

@rarson Where's the logical fallacy? The site might show good info, but the first impression is that it's a fan site praising the company. It's an obvious assumption. What if was a site like "xboxinsider.com", the first thing to be thought is that's a fan site that'll only show good stuff about it.

I was just saying, that wasn't the best he could do to convince people that GS is not showing good stuff about Nintendo. Unless of course you like Nintendo beforehand...

@Raxyman I just posted some examples of good news that hadn't even been mentioned in bad news. I can link you to bad news articles from that website if you want, but that wasn't the point of my comment. It's just unacceptable to misinform people like that, it's not like Dead Space 3 will never be on the Wii U, but it isn't currently planned, we don't know on which platforms Dead Space 3 will be in the end, apart from the usual PC, 360 and PS3 platforms.

@Raxyman Yeah, that's why I put hardcore in brackets.

Nope, doesn't look like it, if you are referring to Trauma Center, I get my info from IGN andMy Nintendo News, I gave up on GameSpot's news division, it's too sloppy, too much editors that let their thoughts into the news stories, by not even mentioning them, and the editors often write a bit of confusing text, to sum it up, GameSpot just has a shitty news part of it's website.

@joujou264 If that was your intention then you can keep cool, GS isn't on it's best days and everyone knows that.

Also:"the GameSpot staff is kind of just a bunch of generic ''hardcore'' gamers that have also a job in the gaming business."

If by hardcore you meant paid, then yea. Agreed. The true meaning of hardcore gamers doesn't involve any console in the middle. I can assure you that . Hardcore gamers play pretty much everything.

And BTW, you seems to know about Wii U, y'know if there's any "Trauma" game to it already? When i spoke about hardcore gaming in every consoles i kinda remembered that game...

@Raxyman I didn't try to change anybodys opinions, I wanted to show that GameSpot isn't doing that great of a job at making news articles as let's say IGN, or even a Nintendo specific website, and wanted to just show that the Wii U isn't getting JUST bad news. It may seem like I'm talking about a conspiracy, or something crazy like that, but it is just wrong to write news about something and not include all the news. I hope they don't do the same with the 720 or PS4, but I'm thinking that they'll try to make more good news about those, since, y'know, the GameSpot staff is kind of just a bunch of generic ''hardcore'' gamers that have also a job in the gaming business.

@joujou264 It's OK, it's just that showing this won't convince anyone. It would have to show something more "neutral" like IGN, gamebomb or any other gaming site...

Still, it's hard to find a completely impartial article. Just like Gamespot as of late is showing this "bad news" about the Wii U, you are showing only the good ones. I honestly think there's no way of knowing good or bad things before the actual console is released...For short i wasn't saying you were wrong, it's just that in the internet no one changes opinion, ever.

@joujou264 It does seem that GameSpot ONLY reports ''negative'' wii-u news. Pretty much every article I remember posted is in some way negative. A LOT of ''positive'' wii-u news isn't shown at all. More major things like some of the things you mentioned are ignored to talk about non-multi-touch.

@joujou264 cool ... but this article is letting people know that a high profile game that people weren't sure was going to appear on WiiU will not in fact ... appear on Wii U. I don't see how this is bad news at all, its JUST news.

@ColdfireTrilogy

Actually, I get the distinct impression from the actual quote that it is NOT an announcement that the title is not coming to the console, and I think you, Gamespot, and others are reading into something that simply isn't there. His words, exactly, were "not currently in the plan." In other words, they obviously aren't working on it right now, and aren't planning to, so it probably won't happen, but that doesn't mean "the plan" couldn't change in the future. That's pretty noncommittal.

I think had it been a more definitive decision, he would have something along the lines of "no."

@ColdfireTrilogy Was that meant to be sarcastic? Because it sure looked like that, if a high profile game isn't coming to a console that is said to be hardcore, then it's bad news for the console.

@BlackLense Actually Nintendo announced, not so long ago, that the WiiU will support DLC, F2P and micro transactions.

They also stated that they will not build games (I assume Nintendo's 1st party titles) for that style of business model, but the doors were open to any company that wants to makes games supporting that business model.

@Raxyman yeah the news came out like last week. I am not sure whether or not it is final; I think it was Saturo Iwata who delivered the news to a group of investors.... I am trying to find the actual document, instead of the news from gaming websites, and post the link in here.

Also, yeah I forgot that they were going to do something similar for the 3DS.... which in a way, it prove it to people that the 3DS was capable of it, since Nintendo did a patch fixing for Mario Kart 7 no so long ago.

@BlackLense If you mean from the technical standpoint, they can. Maybe Nintendo just doesn't want to allow Capcom have their on-disc DLC, since the public responded more than negatively to it.
