In addition to the standard $60 version of No Man's Sky for PC and PlayStation 4, fans who want to spend more will be able to. Sony also today announced an $80 Limited Edition PS4 version for retail, while iam8bit and developer Hello Games have partnered to make a $150 "Explorer's Edition" for the PC edition.

No Caption Provided

The Limited Edition comes with the game in a steelbook case, as well as the following content:

  • Adventures in No Man's Sky Comic - Featuring two stories set in the No Man's Sky universe, with contributions from Watchmen co-creator Dave Gibbons, Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Star Trek: Titan writer James Swallow, and sci-fi illustrator Angus McKie
  • The Art of No Man's Sky - 48 page art book featuring a host of concept art
  • PS4 Dynamic Theme - Immerse yourself in the world of No Man's Sky with this unique PlayStation®4 system theme with beautiful abstract art inspired by the game's vast, mysterious universe.
  • Bonus In-game DLC:
    • PHOTONIX CORE - An advanced ship boost that will speed up your voyage as you travel through the stars.
    • TRADER CHARISMA - Receive a bonus set of valuable resources to gain an advantage in selling and trading.
    • BOLTCASTER SM - Secure access to a powerful weapon blueprint, perfect for defending against hostile lifeforms and Sentinels.

The $150 Explorer's Edition is described as a "lovingly crafted package, designed to evoke a sense of space nostalgia via the inclusion of a tin toy-style ship replica."

No Caption Provided

Its centerpiece is a metal cast ship replica. iam8bit said it's "spared no expense" to achieve "hyper-detail" for this ship, which is hand-painted. The bundle also comes with some decals you can apply to the ship's body, while it also features a removable background display.

The Explorer's Edition is limited to 10,000 units, so if you're interested, you may want to preorder soon. Note that this version comes with a PC code you can redeem through Steam.

No Man's Sky launches on June 21 across PS4 and PC. For more, check out GameSpot's new coverage:

@jako998: You say indie as if some developer, artist and graphic designer did not spend a boat load of time and money to make this game. Please don't be the idiot that goes around trying to put a value to the work of others. You are not in the position in life.

They can charge what they like for their hard work if you choose not to buy it, that's cool and all but please don't be THAT guy,

@jako998: 20 dollars equals two drinks/shots at a bar. It's worth more than that.

@jako998: Rock Band 4 was also an indie game that cost between $60 and $250 depending upon the bundle you purchased.

Star Citizen is an independent game.

Judge the game by its content and gameplay, not whether the developer is an independent one or an owned subsidiary of a larger publisher.

@jako998: The Witcher 2/3 and Divinity OS were $60 and indie games. Pricing varies in the real world. There's no line that says "indie' games only cost $20.

That ship looks very much like a bastard child of a Colonial Viper and a Z-95 Headhunter.

I wasn't sure if I was going to buy PS4 or PC version but after watching all this info coming from Gamespot today, it looks like PS4 version is the winner for me, so PS4 it is. No Man's Sky has been on my radar for a very long time I hope it turns out well. June 21 isn't that far off.

@davillain-: Why's that?

In the end isn't the game itself what matters? Surely having the choice between two platforms, the one with HOTAS, multiscreen and 60fps+ and higher resolutions would be the better choice.

That is obviously assuming you have a good gaming rig.

@billzihang: To answer your curiosity, I'm getting the PS4 version over PC is because 4 of my friends are going to play NMS and I like to meet them in the game if giving the chances. Also my rig is a high-end but I also don't game much on PC for the most parts and I still enjoy gaming on console with my Widescreen HDTV.

@davillain-: pc nor ps4 wont matter, because you are highly unlikely to ever even meet another person.... (at least until online multiplayer mode opens up..).. this game is huge..

@billzihang: No subscription fee (PS Plus) needed in case you're lucky enough to encounter another player. Definitely the PC version.

@cboye18: ps plus IS NOT REQUIRED to play this game.

Online multiplayer (which is not only optional but not in the game yet, will require ps plus "possibly").

The majority of this game does not come from online multiplayer...

@billzihang: yes it is technically, unless you are one of those snobs with a narrow definition of "indie" as a very small studio working on a shoestring budget - which also would not apply to Hello Games in this instance.

@billzihang: Witcher 3 was made by project red also published by project red. If you don't know what an indie means, it means not supported by an external investor. They made the game alone as an individual company.. thus an indie.

Its a high budget indie for sure but still an indie. Just like Star Citizen, just like Cities Skylines. Just like no mans sky.

@sirchick: I don't think you can look at it in terms of 'independent' as in any standard business model.

Some games are made entirely within the Microsoft company, made by Microsoft Studios, and published by Microsoft-- it's rather stretching it to say they are separate companies isn't it. We wouldn't call those games 'indie'.

CDPR has a 'big house' publishing arm to their company, unlike what we normally call 'indie'.

You would be being disingenuous if you say that indie in the realm of gaming hasn't meanings and connotations beyond that strict definition you just stated.

@sirchick: It was published by Warner Bros.

Whether or not it's technically an indie game can be debated, but it simply doesn't fit into the indie category as it's currently applied.

@sirchick: Witcher 3 is not an indie game. It was helped distributed by Warner Bros, and had an $81 million dollar budget, which makes it well within AAA territory. CDProjekt Red is in fact an independent studio in some ways, since they're the developer for CDProjekt (the publisher/distributer) but one thing you need to know is that CDProjekt is a public company, meaning they have stock, thus making them no longer an "indie" publisher.

@EXxile: It was only published by WB in some regions like how Activision only published The Witcher 2 in some regions. Using your logic then Divinity Original Sin isn't an indie because Larian Studios had a publisher release the game. Fact is, this is how developers and publishers worked 30 years ago. Devs would fund their own games(or just concepts) and look around for publishers to market it.

@EXxile: AAA and indie are not an either/or situation they can be both don't forget. Warner bros was a distributor not a publisher which people get confused, just like Walmart could be a distributor, it is in no way a stake holder in the game like EA would be.

How ever if they are a public company then you are right they would not be an indie. I didn't know that part about the company.
