No Man's Sky Servers Will Reset Before Launch
No Man's Sky progress made before Sunday will be wiped from existence.
No Man's Sky may be in the hands of some players, but their progress won't make it to the game's launch. Hello Games senior programmer Harry Denholm has confirmed on Twitter that the "servers are being wiped on Sunday."
Denholm made the announcement in response to Kotaku, which got the game early through a store that broke street date and released the game early. The video game publication posted an article saying you could discover its planet when the game launches on Tuesday. However, with the servers getting reset on August 7, the planet will be wiped from existence. It's unclear if players will be able to reconnect to the servers before the game's official launch on August 9. We've contacted Hello Games and Sony for comment and will update this article as we receive more information.
The servers being offline won't prevent players from journeying the universe. No Man's Sky can be played offline, though you will need to connect to the servers to register your discoveries. Additionally, No Man's Sky doesn't require PlayStation Plus to play online.
No Man's Sky launches for PS4 on August 9 and PC on August 12. The PC release date was confirmed today by Hello's Sean Murray.
Hello Games is already working on the first big update for No Man's Sky. It's expected to include "lots of new features, balancing, and content."
