Microsoft has clarified that World of Warcraft is not coming to Xbox Game Pass. This comes after people received an email showing a World of Warcraft ad with the words "Join Game Pass," leading them to believe that the game would be coming to the subscription service.

The email's subject even said, "Play Call of Duty, Diablo IV, World of Warcraft, and more of Activision's biggest hits with Game Pass!" The World of Warcraft portion of the email also featured an icon suggesting an Xbox console release of the game was coming. Microsoft has now issued a statement attributing all of this to a simple error.

"This was a mistake on our end, sorry for the confusion," said the official Game Pass Twitter account. "Blizzard's World of Warcraft was accidentally included in a game pass email even though it's not available with the service - a correction email will be sent to those who got the original email soon."

In response to the statement, a number of people have requested that World of Warcraft be added to Xbox Game Pass. One person said, "The only mistake is that it's not on Game Pass and should be."

Microsoft acquired Activision Blizzard back in 2023 and has added tons of games in the latter's back catalogue to Game Pass. However, World of Warcraft is not one of them, no doubt due to its business model revolving around a monthly subscription.

As for a console version of WoW, there are no announced plans. However, in 2023, its executive producer said that Activision Blizzard has at least thought about it post-acquisition.

In other World of Warcraft news, the Karazhan Crypts is finally playable today as a dungeon. It's a new piece of endgame content that's part of the game's more experimental Season of Discovery servers.
