Nosferatu Remake Lands Bill Skarsgard And Lily-Rose Depp

Skarsgard and Depp are the latest to be cast in Eggers' remake of the horror classic.

Much like the vampire itself, Robert Eggers' remake of Nosferatu has been difficult to kill. After losing revealing he had lost his leads back in March, the director had been trying to get his version off the ground for five years, but seemingly had given up hope. Well, Bill Skarsgard and Lily-Rose Depp have now been cast and the movie is back on track, Deadline reports.

Eggers had already co-directed a stage production of the film in high school. He had originally cast Ana Taylor-Joy for the project, who also starred in his first feature film The Witch. Joining Taylor-Joy was Harry Styles, who has been building a bigger Hollywood resume as of late, but both stars dropped out due to scheduling conflicts. Eggers ultimately paused on the movie and moved on to his Viking pic The Northman, which hit theaters and streaming in April.

Skarsgard is coming off his hit horror pic Barbarian, which he also executive produced, and a very busy 2023 ahead. His upcoming projects include the Netflix thriller Boy Kills World and John Wick: Chapter 4. He also is attached to star in The Crow reboot with Rupert Sanders directing. The actor has established himself as a contemporary horror icon as of late, most notably as Pennywise in the remake of Stephen King's It.

The 1922 classic has been remade a few times, most notably in 1979 by Werner Herzog starring famed Polish actor Klaus Kinski as Count Orlock and Bruno Ganz as Jonathan Harker.

Eggers' Nosferatu is now set up at Focus Features, with himself directing and handling the script. Jeff Robinov, John Graham, Robert Eggers, Chris Columbus, and Eleanor Columbus are producing.

Jesus. Recreating a classic movie rarely goes well. They flop 99.9% of the time. Herzog's version of Nosferatu is a rare exception and now someone wants to try it again. Good luck. Skarsgard and Depp sound like a promising start, however.

@bdrtfm: but on the other hand you can just forget them 2 days after release. like no one ever talks about the robocop remake anywhere

plus perhaps you save money when dont need to buy tickets or services. if the cinema got total killer movies every day we would all be bankupt

@ghostspartan: I know this isn't the subject, but I just thought it deserved a comment.

Robocop was ruined by the producers/production company.

Jose Padilha, the director, was hired to recreate the original movie and use the same vibe of his most notable works. Elite Squad and Elite Squad: The Enemy Within. (I highly recommend those 2 movies. It's a perfect depiction of Rio at the time)

He said in an interview that when production was about to start, the studio started changing the script, removing stuff and basically turned a great R-Rated movie into the PG-13 POS that was released in 2014.

@bdrtfm: You should watch Nosferatu the Vampyre (1979 ), for a re-creation, it is pretty darn good.

@HiroArka: Considering they wrote "Herzog's version of Nosferatu is a rare exception," I think it's safe to say they've seen it.

I'd also recommend "Nosferatu in Venice," the Herzog-less quasi-sequel from the late '80s with Kinski returning as a vampire. Its low budget really shows, but it has some great atmosphere.
