The next wave of free Xbox games are currently available for Xbox Live Gold subscribers. The second batch of October 2017's free Games With Gold titles started showing up recently; as announced previously, these include first-person puzzle game The Turing Test on Xbox One and Medal of Honor: Airborne for Xbox 360. That game plays on Xbox One through backwards compatibility.

Also of note is that Fullbright's adventure/exploration game Gone Home is free on Xbox One all month long. You can see the full rundown for October 2017's Games With Gold lineup below. Click any link and it will bring you to the game's Xbox.com download page.

If you're looking for something else, Microsoft has rolled out the usual Xbox weekly deals and a special Xbox Halloween sale. Also, you can see October 2017's free PlayStation Plus games here. Additionally, Microsoft has announced the lineup of free November Games With Gold titles, which include TrackMania Turbo.

Why is this at the top of the "recent" articles?

Turing Test is a cool game, but then I'm a puzzle fan, science fiction devotee, and philosophy geek, so it was basically micro-targeted for my happy place. Suffers from Portal comparisons, but it has some interesting and different things to say.

Gone Home defines the Walking Simulator genre, with 24 audio logs to collect over a couple of hours (or less). Good voice acting, decent writing, and interesting characters -- for less than one evening of gaming. More of a non-linear interactive short story. At least it was briefly interesting; the original owner's side stories, the secret doors/panels, and finding the damned ball in the garage made it almost like a game.

There's a legitimately good riot-grrrl-punk band (early 90s-styled) scattered throughout, though. Bunch of in-game tapes that are worth listening to.

@Pyrosa: This game is noting more than a glorified "Look at me, I am Lesbian" and my parents found out and left the house 2 hour ridiculous tripe politically correct snoozefest. Want to play a real game? Play What Happened to Edith Finch. Thank me later.

@Utnayan: @Utnayan: What Remains Of Edith Finch is amazing but Gone Home still had a few moments that kind of grabbed me.

But yea, definitely would recommend Edith Finch or Dear Esther over Gone Home. I would also say Dear Esther does a better job of defining the walking Sim genre as it literally coined the genre but to each their own.

Turing Test was flipping awesome, to anyone who enjoyed the narration, themes and tone of Pneuma: Breath Of Life, The Turing Test is a must play.

@shadowpandora: I'll definitely play both; thanks for the tips. Every once in awhile I throw an adventure/puzzle title in just to break things up a bit (and usually due to sale notifications).

Airborne would be so much better if the ADS mechanics weren’t such absolute shit. I’ve played through it and everything else about it is a solid 8/10 but the ADS bs brings it down to a 5/10 for me.

I wouldn't mind another WWII Medal of Honor. I'm not sure if the traditional MoH game is a $60 proposition anymore, but Airborne was pretty good for the old school WWII shooter's swan song.

@Mogan: I think the company died off after trying to compete with COD with that last trash game they brought out. Yeah sadly Medal of Honor is dead and Call of Duty killed it.

@legendaryh1tman: I imagine EA still owns the rights and could revive it if they wanted to. Though, it seems like they're leaning heavy on the Battlefield/Battlefront games as their big flagship shooters right now.

Maybe if CoD: WWII does super well (better than usually, anyway) more folks will look at bringing back WWII shooters. Thinking about it now, I might actually want a new, AAA Brothers In Arms type game even more than a new Airborne. Maybe there's room to take mechanics from both.

@jagdedge124: One thing for sure I won't be getting WW2 COD. That game plays like trash based what I played from the beta. They might as well just remaster WAW.

@jagdedge124: All that's needed for a console port is 1) lots of people telling them they want one, 2) time, and 3) money.
