San Jose-based OmniVision Technologies has today confirmed that its CameraPlay chipset has been chosen by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe to power the USB camera required to play EyeToy: Mini Games on the PlayStation 2. The camera, which will be bundled with a collection of minigames, will allow players not only to see themselves on the screen when playing games, but also to play using nothing but their own movements.

"This is a significant design win for OmniVision," said John Lynch, VP of sales and marketing at OmniVision. "We have been investing our engineering resources for the past two years to optimize a solution for SCEE and are extremely pleased to be selected as their camera technology provider."

EyeToy: Mini Games is currently scheduled for release in Europe in July, but no North American release has been confirmed at this time. For more information, check out our previous coverage of the game.
