Oscars Museum Will Feature Miyazaki Exhibit

After eight years, the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures has set December 14th 2020 as their opening date, and according to their website, the museum will have an entire exhibit featuring the works of acclaimed filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli.

Miyazaki has made some of the most beloved animated films in recent history, including Spirited Away and My Neighbor Totoro. Anime News Network reported that the exhibit will feature all kinds of articles from the production of his films "some of which have never been seen outside of Studio Ghibli's archives" including hundreds of concept sketches, character designs, and storyboards. According to the museum's director, this will be, "the first major exhibition of his work presented in the united states."

The museum's shop is also reported to feature unique merchandise from Studio Ghibli. Personally, I'm hoping they will have a replica of Sheeta's Laputan necklace from Castle in the Sky, but I would settle for Nausicaa's insect charm too.

Tom Hanks, actor and co-chair of the Academy Museum campaign, announced the opening date at the 92nd annual Academy Awards, commenting, "We cannot wait to welcome the whole world to the Academy Museum." The museum will be on Wilshire and Fairfax in Los Angeles and will feature exhibits from all kinds of revered films including The Wizard of Oz, Casablanca, Psycho, and plenty of others.
