Panasonic's GameCube DVD hybrid
Look at the design changes and controller for Panasonic's DVD player.
At Nintendo's annual Space World show this week Panasonic demonstrated an updated version of its DVD player that includes the GameCube hardware. The unit was shown playing movies as well as games during the course of the show, and the image quality during DVD playback looked to be on par with most midrange DVD players. The casing has been slightly altered so that there's no longer a plastic plate surrounding the controller ports, and the brushed stainless steel casing of old has given way to a more polished, shiny look. The GameCube logo has been added to the right side of the face of the unit.
Panasonic had a remote control on display with the unit, as well as a gray GameCube controller with Panasonic's logo emblazoned on its face. Panasonic's GameCube DVD player will retail for $325 in Japan, but no definitive release date or price has been announced for the US.
