Paul Walker to star in Hitman reboot

Fast and Furious actor to play Agent 47 in upcoming big-screen adaptation of Square Enix's stealth series.

Hollywood news site Deadline reports that Fox International Productions has green-lit a Hitman reboot called Agent 47, with Paul Walker (Fast and Furious, Timelime) to star as Agent 47. On board to direct the picture is Aleksander Bach, a commercial director who will be making his big-screen directorial debut.

No Caption Provided

Agent 47 follows 2007's original Hitman, which starred Timothy Olyphant (I Am Number Four, Justified) as the dangerous assassin. That movie was not adored by critics, but netted nearly $100 million worldwide. The new film's script is being penned by Skip Woods, who also wrote the original.

The Hitman reboot will be shot in Berlin and Singapore this summer after Walker finishes a global press tour for Fast and Furious 6. The film will be produced by Charles Gordon (Die Hard), Alex Young (The A-Team), and Adrian Askarieh (Hitman). Daniel Alter (The Apparition) will serve as executive producer.

The most recent entry in the Hitman series--Hitman: Absolution--launched in November behind a positive critical reception. For more, check out GameSpot's review.

Paul Walker would be best suited for the role of Agent Smith who will be stripped to his underwear and tortured, leaving Agent 47 to come to his rescue for the fifth time in a row. Or maybe the fourth in a row since the one in Contracts was a remake of the first game.

Shave his head bald and that is good enough just as long as they leave no trace of hair like the previous film.

i thought the first film would have been alright if it had been named anything 'but' hitman, and absolution has gone to great lengths to destroy all that was cool about 47, so who cares who they put in it at this point?

Its just going to be another hollywood shootem up anyways, so let them put in Kaptain Kangaroo for all i care.

Oh God, WHY? First Timothy Olyphant, now Paul Walker. Hollywood is clueless.

Agent 47 should be played by an actor, not a pretty boy.

@gatsbythepig Yeah, happens a lot. They censored every single comment I made on any of the gun control/video game violence articles, and most were not even offensive.

Am I the only one who considers Hitman as being one of the better video game to movie adaptations?

It may not have followed the game perfectly but I thought they made a very clever movie which showed Agent 47 as being both ruthless but also a reason as to why.

@1234ritchie That's like saying dog poop is better than cat poop, it's all still poop.

The fact is no film these wannabes try and make will come close to the potential the hitman games have.

Of all the actors they could have picked for the role, they end up with Paul Walker? I just can't see him pulling it off...they migh as well have got Keanu Reeves.

Personally I think they should have got Karl Urban to shave his head and do the role.

The previous Hitman movie adaption in 2007 did not do the franchise much justice, in my opinion. Being a fan of the games since Hitman 2 for the PS2, I was disappointed in little details that long-time Hitman fans are accustomed to. Timothy Olyphant was too young to play Agent 47. But more importantly is that the movie implanted scenes of emotion and hesitation in 47. However, in that defence, the new game, Absolution, does have 47 actually perform in a plot of revenge and emotion, but he wasn’t as vulnerable as it seemed in the 2007 film. What also needs mention is the stealth aspect, which wasn’t very evident in the 2007 Hitman. Point being, it worries me to see people associated with films like A-Team, Die Hard, and Fast and Furious being greatly involved in this next Hitman adaption. It seems like even the second chance might be ruined. Or even worse, it could be far worse than the original movie, as happened with Silent Hill, in my opinion. The movies need to take a more psychological, intelligent, and stealthy approached backed by a realistic and rich environment. Not some shell of a man labeled an assassin with an arsenal who ends up with a love interest at the end, like every single other movie. Also, the last thing this movie should be is an action/adventure shooter. Game-to-movie adaptions are certainly difficult, but it's not impossible to satisfy huge fans.

@and3p_mtsu_s13 HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD!!!

I hate how every action movie that could be a deep, realistic adaptation from a fictional game, ends up a shallow romance where the protagonist questions his life bla bla bla... Bunch of crap.

I rate they should've just got on with the hitman story and cast someone who CAN ACT!

No way am I going to see this trash. Walker is a horrible actor. Why the heck would you dump Olyphant? It's not like the guy has a hit TV show...oh wait. Also, It's been only 6 years since the original, No need for a remake, Just make a sequel...with Olyphant.

Him? To play as Hitman? I suppose it's fitting since he didn't say much in the fast series and we all know how much agent 47 likes to talk.

I don't know... I was pretty happy with the other hitman... I just wish it would have been about a different hitman. Agent 47 is one of the greatest video game characters, it is going to be near impossible to bring him to hollywood and have us gamers be happy with him. Make it a different Agent.
Timothy Olyphant did an okay job, but in my book he was NOT agent 47, he was a badass agent! But not 47.

And to stay on track, Paul Walker might work, his face is closer then Timothy Olyphant's was, but his voice is SO far from right. Fingers crossed.

I always thought Chris Redfield is a cross between Paul Walker and Mark Wahlberg in real life.

Agent 47? Not so much...I would rather see someone older....maybe Bruce Willis or someone better.

@Munstable I think that Mark Wahlberg should play Chris Redfield in a real life movie. But I don't know if he could get that part right.

I dont have a problem with paul walker as an actor (even though hes's nowhere near the best) but agent 47 is not a skinny pretty boy. I would not buy walker as a gritty assassin engineered to kill. With his limited ability I seriously doubt he could prove me wrong either. But who knows.

He actually does look like Agent 47, once you lose both the facial hair and the hair on his head, darken the eyebrows, maybe a lil' makeup and you'll see 47! That's what they're OBVIOUSLY going to do. It's ACTING, people. It takes a good eye to see it.
