Multiple Persona 4 Voice Actors Say They Won't Be Back For A Still-Unannounced Remake

The actors for two key characters have said they won't be back for a remake of Persona 4, which has yet to be announced by Atlus.

Rumors of a Persona 4 remake from Atlus have been swirling for some time now, but the latest fuel to the fire is coming from an unexpected place--the voice actors of two key characters have confirmed that they will not reprise those roles in the still-unannounced project.

Yuri Lowenthal, who portrayed Yosuke Hanamura in Persona 4, seemingly revealed that a Persona 4 remake was in the works in a Bluesky post about not being invited back, though Atlus has still not confirmed a remake of this RPG classic is in the works. "And for those who keep asking, no, I will not be returning as Yosuke for the Persona 4 remake," Lowenthal remarked on Bluesky. "I asked. Maybe I even begged, but they don’t want me to come back." The post has since been deleted.

For those asking, I have not been asked to reprise my role as Chie Satonaka in the Persona 4 remake. RIP 😭😭😭😭😭😭 I am blessed to have recorded as many Persona 4 games as I did playing her.

Meanwhile, voice actress Erin Fitzgerald also posted to BlueSky that she will not be returning to the role of Chie Satonaka. "For those asking, I have not been asked to reprise my role as Chie Satonaka in the Persona 4 remake," Fitzgerald wrote. "I am blessed to have recorded as many Persona 4 games as I did playing her."

Rumors of a Persona 4 remake have been swirling ever since Persona 3 Reload launched last February. These rumors have gained traction in recent months, with leakers like extas1s claiming that it will be revealed during the Xbox Games Showcase. Atlus has not commented on these rumors at all, though, so Lowenthal's comments are the first we've heard about a Persona 4 remake from anyone who could potentially be in the know about it.

If true, it's disappointing to hear that these actors will not return in a potential remake of Persona 4. It would line up with Atlus' approach to voice acting for Persona 3 Reload, as no voice actors from the original portrayed their characters in that remake either. Lowenthal and Smith's comments suggest that this is a deliberate choice on Atlus' part, not related to voice-actor availability, and that other Persona 4 voice actors also won't be returning to portray their iconic characters.

If the rumors are true and a Persona 4 remake is real, it seems like Atlus could reveal it during the Xbox Games Showcase on June 8. Fans of classic RPGs also have Dragon Quest 1+2 HD-2D Remake to look forward to this year.

Doesn't it say she's on strike right in her twitter-- I mean bluesky username? How would she get a role while on strike? I must be missing something.

Sounds to me like he was simply responding to a bunch of Persona 4 Fans pestering him about reprising his role in an anticipated remake which has yet to be even confirmed to be in development in the first place.

Seriously, he didn't leak anything, he's just saying that he hasn't been invited to reprise his role in a Persona 4 Remake. Frankly, I don't know why anyone would expect him to be even if a Persona 4 Remake is in the works, considering he wasn't hired to reprise his role as the protagonist in Persona 3 Reload either, which was instead given to Aleks Le. Heck, nobody was hired to reprise their roles in P3R, except for Tara Platt who reprised her role as Elizabeth, while her role as Mitsuru went to another actress. So if P4 does get remade, they probably will recast all the roles for the protagonists yet again.

Ok. You were a voice and not the actual character. Hopefully you find a new game to kill it in.

That sucks, he did a great job in the original. I’m going to be SUPER PISSED if they replaced my girl Chie with anyone other than Tracey Rooney. She’s the heart and soul of that game.

Revealing it via tweet just sounds salty.
