Pinball's golden age may be behind it, but flipper fanatics still have something to look forward to. Farsight Studios has announced it will release The Pinball Arcade on a plethora of platforms early next year.

Tales of the Arabian Nights will be one of Pinball Arcade's first four tables (screenshot from Pinball Hall of Fame - The Williams Collection).

Set for release on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, 3DS, PC, Mac, iPhone, iPad, and Android devices, The Pinball Arcade will feature digital re-creations of real-life pinball tables from manufacturers like Williams, Bally, and Gottlieb. The game will also include licensed tables from the last remaining maker of coin-op pinball machines, Stern.

The first four tables made available will include Tales of the Arabian Nights, Black Hole, Theatre of Magic, and Ripley's Believe It or Not. Farsight plans to release an additional two tables as downloadable content every month, with added features including online tournaments and head-to-head play. The studio has said it plans to release "over 50 of the all-time greatest tables" as part of The Pinball Arcade.

Farsight is no stranger to digital pinball preservations. The studio developed 2008's Pinball Hall of Fame - The Williams Collection and 2004's Pinball Hall of Fame - The Gottlieb Collection for multiple platforms. Most recently, the developer released a version of The Williams Collection for the 3DS. This game is one of the most milked ports in gaming history. If you want state of the art pinball on the ps3, try Zen Pinball.

I'm hoping to see probably one of the best tables ever made, STAR TREK THE NEXT GENERATION recreated soon. Everytime I see one of these Pinball Greatest Hits games being released, I always hope that the table list includes this game... Here's hoping...

I hope that "Dr Who" Pinball from 1991 era eventually makes it onto one of these collections. I would rather play the actual real Pinball game, but still Alien Crush is one of the greatest videogame pinball games of all time. Even though it wasn't a real pinball game. This new videogame pinball collection is coming to PSvita at least.

THIS my friends, is the best gaming news in AGES. Farsight have done EXCELLENT conversions before and i dare to say that Pinball Hall of Fame - The Williams Collection is the ONLY "real" digital pinball game ever created... it feels spot on and looks amazing. I'm getting really tired of the ridiculously overrated Zen-pinball games

Man between Hot Shots and this game, I should get my money's worth off the Vita haha. Not a surprise Brendan Sinclair is posting this story.

The arabian nights table is really cool with the tunnels. It looks like the ball is magically floating in the air. I hope there's a demo soon! :)

I miss the old days where you'd walk into a building with some eighties New Wave music playing change a couple bucks into quarters and play a REAL pinball machine...... Yeah, I'd much rather play the REAL thing than some virtual simulation. I played one of the Pinball Hall Of Fame games when they were new but I got no enjoyment out of it, it just isn't the same, no matter what anyone does short of creating a holodeck or VR machine where we can have a virtual pinball machine we can touch it will never be the same......

Why not... I don't know, go to an arcade and play real pinball for a couple pennies?

I'd actually kinda like this more than Pinball FX because it has real classic tables. Ballys and Williams had some great tables, but I figure a lot won't appear in this game because the licenses involves film franchise more than just a table manufacturer. So probably no Indiana Jones table. :(

I like this, actually ... will give Pinball FX 2 some competition, which will hopefully mean both games will improve and produce better and better tables.

Shovelware usually does, although this game, at least, looks good.
