Pixar Releases Early Details On New Film Luca
Disney reacts to fans noticing a trademark application for the title.
Pixar has released new details about its next original movie, Luca, which is scheduled to hit theaters on June 18, 2021. The movie's director, Enrico Casarosa (Incredibles 2, Up) issued a joint statement through Disney about the film after word leaked online that the company filed a trademark application for the title.
"This is a deeply personal story for me, not only because it's set on the Italian Riviera where I grew up, but because at the core of this film is a celebration of friendship. Childhood friendships often set the course of who we want to become and it is those bonds that are at the heart of our story in Luca," Casarosa said in the statement. "So in addition to the beauty and charm of the Italian seaside, our film will feature an unforgettable summer adventure that will fundamentally change Luca."
Further details about Luca, aside from the fact that it's being produced by Andrea Warren, are still scarce.
Earlier this year, Pixar released Onward, the studio's 22nd film. Another Pixar movie, Soul, co-written by Tina Fey, Kemp Powers, Mike Jones, and Pete Docter, was due out earlier this year in June but was postponed to November 20 because of theater closures caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
