Play An Xbox One Game For Free This Weekend Only
Seventh time's the charm.
Xbox One owners who like fighting games--or think they might like them if only they had the chance to play one--can take Tekken 7 for a spin between now and August 6 for free. The only catch is that you have to be an Xbox Live Gold subscriber to take part in the event. You can find the download button in the Gold Member area on your Xbox One's dashboard, or go here to have it install remotely.
The free window is open between now and August 5 at 11:59 PM PT / August 6 at 2:59 AM ET / August 6 at 8:59 AM CEST. Should you choose to purchase Tekken 7 from the Microsoft Store, you can get it on sale for the next few days as well. The standard edition is discounted to $24 / £20 (from $60 / £50), and the deluxe edition, which comes with the season pass, is down to $34 / £28 (from $85 / £70)--not a bad deal. All progress you earn during the free play weekend carries over to the full game.
Tekken 7 has a roster of over 30 playable characters, eight of whom are new, plus Akuma from the Street Fighter series. The game introduces new "rage art" moves, which become available once your health gets low. They're intended to help even out the difficulty for newcomers.
One thing you might be wondering is whether Tekken 7 is any good. According to our sister site Metacritic, where it stands at 82/100, it is. According to GameSpot's 8/10 Tekken 7 review: "Tekken 7 remains an easy game to recommend. Its diverse roster is packed with a wide range of personalities and fighting styles, bolstered by a raucous attitude that begs to be taken seriously while simultaneously mocking its more peculiar whims in the process. Tekken fans will find their next favorite game--one that's the product of decade's worth of refinement."
So go download Tekken 7 if you want to get in some playtime this weekend before the deal goes away. And if you plan to buy it, you'll have to do so by August 7 if you want the discounted rate.
