PlayStation 2 HDD sells out in Japan

Sony has announced on its Japanese PlayStation Web site that the first 10,000 units of its HDD hard drive add-on for the PlayStation 2 quickly sold out. The HDD units will be shipped to customers on July 27. With an installed user base of more than 3 million PS2 consoles in Japan, it was expected that the meager amount of units available would go rather quickly. The HDD was sold exclusively on Sony's Web site, and the company has not announced when more units will be made available for purchase.
