PlayStation 4 crosses 6 million sales following strong Japan launch

The PS4 is off to a great start. I wonder if they'll maintain their lead after the XONE price cut.

More impressive than the number of consoles sold is the number of games. Selling games is where the money is made, and Sony's attach rate in the PS3 generation was lackluster until the final year or so. It'll be interesting to see if they can sell games at the same rate as Microsoft for the next several years.

As of February 22nd 2014.....the PS4 had sold 5,847,194 units globally.

This figure includes the 319,689 units sold in Japan on Saturday 22nd February.

The PS4 must have sold at least 152,806 more units globally since Sunday 23rd February to have hit the big 6 million!

88% of the entire lifetime success of the Xbox 360 came from USA and Europe. The Xbox One can expect the sales of the remaining countries it has yet to be released in make up only 12% of the Xbox One's lifetime success.

LOL!!!!! Here is an idea of what you can expect the sales to look like globally for Xbox One....first 3 weeks of February. 8th February 2014, 15th February 2014 and the 22nd February 2014.

- Xbox One: 113,836 units sold in USA

- Playstation 4: 174,527 units sold in USA

PS4 leads by 60,691 additional units sold in USA

-Xbox One: 34,724 units sold in Europe

-Playstation 4: 169,640 units sold in Europe

PS4 leads selling x4 the amount of Xbox One totalling 138,896 units .....plus an additional 30,744 units on top.

-Xbox One: 9,911 additional units sold outside of USA and Europe

-Playstation 4 sold 74,423 additional sold outside of USA, Europe AND Japan.

This is the only part where you can argue the point of Playstation 4 being avalable in more countries than Xbox One. What PS4 sold in USA and Europe alone is over TWICE MORE than what Xbox One has sold in EVERY country its currently available in.

It is USA and Europe that matter. The PS2 would still have been the number 1 selling home console of all time even if you discounted all PS2s sold outside of USA and Europe.

But how much has WiiU sold?

The sales in Japan are good but I honestly thought they would have sold more in that region during the launch week.

in stores one second gone the next; I still haven't been able to pick up one yet but hopefully during the summertime supply will start to trump demand.

I still haven't picked up my Xbox One yet (and I will, as all my buddies have it and I'm a big fan) That being said, I can't wait to get my hands on a PS4 in a year or so. More for some of the single player games :) I still haven't tried "The Last of Us" (I know it's PS3) But I sure would like to, and any other great SP game!

Its funny how so many comments about Titanfall from ps4 owners say its along the line of a mindless shooter, but then there is always that after comment. Titanfall 2 will definitely be on PS4 though. Anyways, at least I will have a next gen game worth playing on my Xbox one next Monday. Unless EA gets in the way, again.

Nice to see consoles and companies do well. I will eventually get both the PS4 and the XB1.

I went to Target the other day and I saw 6 XB1s sitting in stock while there was only 1 PS4 available and it looked like someone was gonna get it.

PS4 is still in very tight supply due to the huge demand.

I can see the PS4 selling over 20-24 million this year with a good Christmas bundle and the order 1886. Sorry xbots another year of this

Sony, I've enjoyed your consoles and games for many years, but isn't it amazing how well you can do if you don't act like a bunch of know-all dildos at the beginning of a gen (referencing early PS3 era). :)

Just imagine if Sony actually supplied more units... I see Xones everywhere on shelves. Still yet to see PS4 anywhere "At Retail Price" (even though I own one) I still look around for them... either I'm blind... or I see something that still meets high demand...
