Earlier this month, Microsoft took advantage of its stage presentation at PAX Australia to reveal its plans to bring Xbox One consoles to EB Expo this year. Now, PlayStation is also coming to the party with its upcoming hardware.

Announced by organiser EB Games, the PlayStation 4 will be available for consumer hands-on time at the show in October, ahead of the console’s as-yet-unrevealed holiday launch date. No information was confirmed about which games players will be ready to try out early.

EB Games national brand, events, and engagement manager Debra McGrath said, "This is a big deal … people are going to be able to look back in years to come and brag that they played it first. We know that this is something that the community have been waiting for and as gamers ourselves we are equally excited. The prospect of hands on game play before the official release is something gamers only dream of. We are stoked that Sony Computer Entertainment Australia has made this a reality for those attending EB Expo."

EB Expo will take place from October 4-6 at the Sydney Showgrounds. Check out some of GameSpot's coverage from EB Expo 2012.
