PlayStation 5 "Activities" Feature That Starts Individual Game Features Detailed

We may have a much better idea of one of the PlayStation 5's key features. System architect Mark Cerny has briefly mentioned a feature that would let you load into key parts of games directly from the PS5 interface, and a new report shares more details on that along with a name: Activities.

The article first appeared on Gamereactor. It was quickly pulled, but not before being archived for posterity (via Eurogamer). According to the report, the feature will let you load into individual game modes, like skipping straight to a race in WRC9 and bypassing the menus entirely.

Cerny had previously explained this feature in an interview with Wired, but hadn't shared such specific details.

"Even though it will be fairly fast to boot games, we don't want the player to have to boot the game, see what's up, boot the game, see what's up," Cerny said. "Multiplayer game servers will provide the console with the set of joinable activities in real time. Single-player games will provide information like what missions you could do and what rewards you might receive for completing them--and all of those choices will be visible in the UI. As a player you just jump right into whatever you like."

While this may provide a name, the article has been pulled and Sony hasn't given any official word about "Activities." We expect the company will outline this and any other new hardware features sometime soon, ahead of the planned fall console launch.
