PlayStation Communities On PS4 Is Shutting Down

The PS4 feature, which allowed players of similar interests to chat and play games together, will be discontinued soon.

PlayStations Communities on PS4 will soon be removed, Sony has announced. The console manufacturer announced that the social feature will no longer be available in April. PlayStation Communities allowed like-minded players to form parties, send each other messages, compare screenshots, among other activities.

According to TechRadar, Sony removed the PlayStation Communities app in March of last year, as well as removing the ability to create private parties on PS4. However, it seems players can still make parties by sorting their friends into groups. Additionally, the PS5 does not support the PlayStation Communities feature, and Sony hasn't announced any plans to bring it to the current-gen console.

Now Playing: 9 Hidden PS5 Features

Sony hasn't been shy about removing features from older consoles. Late last year, the company removed the ability to buy PS3, PSP, and PS Vita content via a computer or phone, as well as discontinuing the wishlist functionality. Sony recently confirmed that the PS5 is being sold at a loss, which is common for game consoles. If you're one of the many people who are still trying to get a PS5, check out our restock guide.

Just integrate discord into the system and let that solve it.

I joined a community for Yakuza long time ago. After a few months I left it because people were either posting nonsensical stupidity or phishing scams. Zero point to them when I'm just playing single player games.

"PS5 is being sold at a loss, which is common for game consoles."

They should just cut out the middle man (the scalpers) and sell them for 1k a piece. It seems people are willing to pay those prices for some reason.

@lion2447: Or just discontinue consoles and start releasing through Steam, GOG, and other PC store fronts. That way they don't have to take losses on consoles.

They were only ever used to get around PM blockers to deliver insulting messages as far as I could tell.

@Barighm: How would that even work? Most people don't bother with them and then what would I do if I knew someone did use it. Randomly go into a community they're a member of and be like "hey GetMoney420XxX69 ur a bitch for camping in COD on the tall building in Crash" in the hopes they randomly go there and see it?
I extensively used the Communities feature and never saw shit like that once. Mostly just people posting porn, males being thirsty for an e-girlfriend and a lot of dudes pretending to be girls. Normally people would just small talk though.

@mcnichoj: I don't know. I never used it. All I know is I would get a notification stating there was an "update in my community" or something, which is weird because I never joined any communities and I don't know how I did, and said message would just be someone bitching because I kicked their ass in Overwatch or something. Eventually I disabled all notifications or updates regarding anything to do with communities.

@Barighm: Are you confusing Communities and groups? A Community you have to actively join and you would know if you had. Groups replaced the old school style messaging from the PS3 and it sends you a notification when someone creates a group by clicking the message button, regardless if they actually decide to message you after or not.

Oh no, the communities, those things I actively ignored because I had no idea who would even use them.
