"We're having a phenomenal year."

Sony's PlayStation 4 brand had a strong Black Friday, it seems. PlayStation Network boss Eric Lempel said in an interview with CNBC today that more PlayStation consoles moved off shelves this Black Friday than ever before in the company's history.

"We had the biggest Black Friday in PlayStation history," Lempel said (via GI.biz). "We sold more consoles than we ever have in our 22-year history, and [PlayStation] Plus is a natural addition to that purchase."

The PlayStation 4 was heavily discounted at numerous retailers on Black Friday, with the 1 TB standard system down to $200 and the PS4 Pro available for only $350. PlayStation VR bundles were also on sale, along with DualShock 4 controllers and more. Some of these deals continue today on Cyber Monday.

Lempel added that some doubted the viability of consoles at the onset of the new generation that kicked off in 2013 with the launch of the PS4 and Xbox One. But PS4 sales have been strong, reaching more than 60 million units shipped by Sony's latest count. "The PlayStation 4 business is thriving," Lempel said. "We're having a phenomenal year."
