PlayStation PC Could Be A New Division Focused On PC Releases

As Sony brings more and more of its console games to PC, the company is now seemingly establishing a new label called PlayStation PC to support this ambition.

People recently discovered that the Steam page for Days Gone lists the publisher as "PlayStation PC LLC." Horizon Zero Dawn and God of War's PC pages on Steam still list the publisher as PlayStation Mobile, Inc., for what it's worth.

VGC discovered that Sony Interactive Entertainment apparently registered the "PlayStation PC" name in April 2021. However, Sony has not yet commented publicly about a new division called PlayStation PC.

According to NPD analyst Mat Piscatella, only about 1/3 of PC players in the US own a PS4 and around 8% have a PS5. As such, there is a "huge PC audience that can be reached" by bringing more PlayStation games to PC, Piscatella observed. He also pointed out that releasing PlayStation games on PC is not likely to impact sales on console. "Win-win kinda deal," Piscatella said.

Looking ahead, Uncharted 4: A Thief's End and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy are coming to PC in 2022, while God of War is also coming to PC next year. A recent Steam database leak also revealed that Sackboy: A Big Adventure is in the works for PC potentially. This all happened after Sony acquired PC port specialist studio Nixxes, fueling further speculation about Sony's plans for PC.

GameSpot has contacted PlayStation in an attempt to get more details on PlayStation PC.

For its part, Microsoft has brought its first-party games to PC for years already and, unlike Sony, it launches them day-and-date with their console counterparts. Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers can get console and PC editions together for one price, though Sony does not offer a similar program.

In other news, Sony just announced that the PS5 sold a further 3.3 million units in the last quarter to improve the system's lifetime sales to 13.4 million.
