PlayStation VR Midnight Launches Planned for GameStop and Best Buy Stores
People will be able to get a PlayStation VR at midnight Eastern time while quantities last.
Best Buy and GameStop have announced they will hold midnight launches for the PlayStation VR at a number of their stores. Both retailers will open at 12:01 AM ET across the country, meaning you could get it well before midnight depending on where you live.
If you live in the Western time zone, GameStop and Best Buy will open at 9:01 PM PT. More than 1,600 GameStop stores are participating, while Best Buy will open around 350 of its own stores across the US. Both retailers will have limited stock on October 13 both in store and online, though Sony is anticipating supply shortages. You can find out the nearest participating store on the GameStop and Best Buy websites.
GameStop is offering a 20 percent discount to those who want to trade in games and accessories towards the purchase of a PlayStation VR. Additionally, GameStop says it will have eight physical games available on October 13. These include Batman: Arkham VR, Rigs: Mechanized Combat League, Eve: Valkyrie, and Until Dawn: Rush of Blood.
Game demos for PlayStation VR have been in some stores since June. These include multiple Best Buy and GameStop locations that let you try out PlayStation VR Worlds, Eve: Valkyrie, Headmaster, Battlezone, and Superhypercube. Sony announced today that it's adding more experiences to the in-store demos, including Batman: Arkham VR, Rigs: Mechanized Combat League, Bound, Harmonix Music VR, Carnival Games, Thumper, and two new PlayStation VR Worlds experiences.
PlayStation VR costs $400, but it requires both a PS4 and PlayStation Camera, which are not included. However, you can get the PlayStation Camera, two Move controllers, and PlayStation VR Worlds in a bundle that costs $500.

In GameSpot's review of Sony's virtual reality headset, critic Jimmy Thang said, "[I]t trips up too many times to wholeheartedly recommend at this point. Many of the launch titles will make a large percentage of people sick, and it may lead to the false impression that VR has to make you nauseated... While there are a handful of fun titles, there's nothing that I've played at launch so far to indicate to me that the PS VR is a must-buy right now. For everyone else, I'd recommend saving up for a better reality."
