My only experience of VR is phones and Gear VR and Cardboard. All I am really going to say is 1080p isn't high enough resolution and the screen door effect is fucking horrible.

When VR hits 4K and above or they start making 1080p screens with the pixels closer together I'll jump on board. Till then it is too much money for too low quality. Plus the games look shit so far which never helps.

VR is Amazing at first and your in awe. Then after a little bit you realize that games are so shallow and boring. Your VR headset will then collect dust. The infinite loop never ends with VR.

Cheapest gaming VR to date yet it's still bloody expensive. Welp, looks like we still need to wait for another year before an eventual price drop...

399 is expensive... and you still have to add the cost of a playstation neo I guess. So jumping into this VR hype will cost around 800 USD... maaaan that is way to expensive.

@gralvader: Why do you need to add the cost of whatever Neo will be?

@pacmariofighter: You can search for them through the browser but most of the websites cap the resolution at 720p which means they look like shit in VR.

Source: This was the first thing I did when I got my hands on Google Cardboard. Not even kidding, the FIRST thing. Not a great experience. Not even a peep downstairs it was so grainy.

I suppose if you downloaded yourself a proper Blu-ray quality vid it would be much better but you'll have to play it from a memory stick for it to work.

And that is like pandoras box with Sony there is a chance PSVR won't even be able to run videos outside of a dedicated app or something equally stupid. Sony fucking suck at software compatibility and usability so don't hold your breath.

@pacmariofighter: Not on the PS4. Publishers have a longstanding tradition to not allow AO rated games.

You might have more luck with the Vive/Rift though.

@Barighm: @dexda Modders will probably give PSVR some unofficial PC support pretty soon after launch.

At $400, it could be a more appealing option than Rift or Vive for those who are only interested in VR porn

@Spartan_418: Yeah with a nice healthy dose of bricked console for your efforts. No thanks.

VR will be dead in a few years anyway. PSVR will only accelerate that. You know of all of the gamers at my work (aka the average casual dudes) none of them give two shits about VR and they have already said they won't be buying it.

@dexda: Bricked console... from using a peripheral on your PC instead? You have no evidence of that.

The thing about VR is that actually putting a headset on and trying it makes a huge difference; it makes converts on contact that way. Stores will have VR demos, and as headsets make their way into more homes, it should have a sort of word-of-mouth effect where people demo it through their friends. PSVR and Scorpio making VR affordable and accessible will help with this, the massive expensive gaming PC won't be a barrier the way it is now.

Those "average casual dudes" might change their minds after trying a VR game for the first time. Personally I don't care much about the opinions of the "gamers" who only intend to ever play CoD or FIFA, it's not like they dictate everything.

@Spartan_418: I thought you meant modding the PS4 to run unofficial games. My bad.

The only thing that would end up with is a bricked PS4.

Yeah I suppose PSVR might get a mod on PC. Kind of depends what sort of firmware they've added to it. Knowing Sony it will be some garbage jumble of coding nonsense that no one can decipher.

Wait a sec...can the PS4 even handle VR? There has been a quantum leap in tech recently all because of VR. Even MS is jumping on the bandwagon so soon into the console life-cycle. Do they really expect us to buy a NEO AND a VR helmet or can the PS4 candle it?

@Barighm: It may be able to run on the original PS4, though it may not run so smooth unless you bought the PS4K.

@drizzygadget: It will run fine with Scorpio. Oculus requires a GTX 970, Scorpio is in the 980ti/Titan X territory.

@Stedmister: Its been mentioned plenty of times that the Scorpio will be VR compatible and that MS and Oculus are partnering up, this would be MS's answer to the PS VR

@TheZeroPercent: Yes it is that far away i doubt they have some super secret VR they are going to pull out, at this point they have not done anything on VR as far as anyone knows and it doesnt make sense to start developing now, they will use whats already tried and tested and on the market, it will be a year away and while Sony's will arrive first it wont be taken full advantage of until the Neo comes out around the same time anyway. Not to defend MS they had a poor E3 in my opinion, but i do think that will be their answer to Sony VR
