Now Playing: Pokémon GO - Video Review

Pokemon Go may be about to get new monsters, according to a leak from Starbucks.

In a memo to employees regarding a new promotion, the coffee chain states, "The world of Pokemon Go is about to expand with new Pokemon." The note, which was highlighted by Reddit user alturrisi, goes on to say the hit game will get an update on Thursday, December 8--presumably any new Pokemon will arrive in that very update.

Data miners recently uncovered that Pokemon Go holds files for Johto region (Pokemon Gold and Silver) monsters deep within its code, despite them not being available in the wild right now. It remains to be seen whether these new Pokemon are indeed those 100 gen 2 critters.

The Starbucks promotion turns the majority of the chain's coffee shops in the US into PokeStops or Pokemon Gyms. There will also be a special Pokemon-themed frappuccino on offer.

The most recent monster to be added to Pokemon Go was Ditto, and the game's Nearby feature has finally returned in the last two weeks. We also know there is a connection between Pokemon Sun and Moon and Pokemon Go in the works. For more on the hit critter-collecting series, check out our Pokemon Sun and Moon review.

Good for Niantic for trying to further develop this game... sad thing is unless ur 15 years old and have all day after school to walk around ur limited area... ur never going to be able to catch em all.... at launch of this game i was able to be in my office at work and just with the subtle movements i could get a few to pop up now they only appear around the stops and mass public places... i dont have the life style that i can just be walking around all day.

fact is when i do go to the park im going to want to give my attention to the fam and not the app. they made this game to only work around mass public places and not just walking around.

Honestly, all this talk about new pokemon to revive the game, and all the "ideas" I keep seeing at online to make the game better completely miss the mark. I've played Go way too long and myself and with my kids and I've only captured slightly more than half of the pokemon. I'm sure I've caught a billion pidgies and ratatas. With each update it changes slightly, so I was catching more pikachus and lately geodudes are everywhere. But NOTHING has helped me to catch the other more rare pokemon. I've literally NEVER seen a squirtle so my starting pokemon suck AND nowhere closer to evolving than ever before. The eggs are too unpredictable.

While this new batch of pokemon being added in will get people interested again, it's only a bandied fix. People will catch the new, annoyingly easy pokemon and then quite when there is no consistent or reliable way to find the others. The point and public appeal of the game isn't all the DS stuff, no matter what people say. That wasn't the core audience for this game. People who want a more handheld pokemon experience already have the handheld games. This was supposed to introduce "catch them all!" to the masses - the casuals and moms and so on - and then they made that seemingly impossible to do.
